I have an idea. Shocking, I know. Anyway, I have a thought about Rockets guard Tracy McGrady. For those who do not know, I have been on different Truth & Rumors posts advocating his trade from the Rockets. Basically, I feel that the experiment of Yao and T-Mac has failed and that the Rockets need to get rid of the older T-Mac and build their team solely around Yao. This is nothing personal against Tracy but I just feel that he holds Yao back, and clearly the Rockets play better without him. So, I have decided that T-Mac needs to be traded to the one team that still needs his fading super star.

The Charlotte Bobcats. Since, Charlotte has re-appeared in the N.B.A., the Bobcats have struggled to be a winner and to acquire a star that would bring in the fans and the attention of fans from all the cities in the N.B.A. Owner Bob Johnson, and President/G.M. (or whatever title Mr. Michael Jordan is using nowadays) need to acquire Tracy McGrady at all costs for his star power can bring in the Charlotte fans, fans across the league, and hopefully free agents.

This is the deal that I propose. Charlotte trades Jason Richardson, Othella Harrington, and Ryan Hollins to Houston for McGrady. The combined contracts of the three Charlotte players equals to just under 14 million dollars. T-Mac's contract is valued at 18 million, but because Charlotte is still under the salary cap they can absorb T-Mac's deal.

This trade would give Houston a player in Richardson that is two years younger and still a bit more explosive then McGrady but also gives them a big man in Harrington, that they can either waive or keep, and a young and inexpensive big man in Hollins ($687,000). The Bobcats would get a player in McGrady that they can add to their nucleus of Okafor, Wallace, and Felton. T-Mac would provide veteran leadership which is much needed, and someone who can flat out score. Also, by bringing in T-Mac the Bobcats can claim another local star has come home. Of course, I am basing that off of McGrady's time at Mt. Zion High School in North Carolina.

In conclusion, a Charlotte-Houston trade would be a win-win. Charlotte gains a superstar that can lead a young team and Houston gets a younger compliment to Yao and some cap flexibility depending on what they elect to do with the Harrington and Hollins contracts.

I think that would work.

T-Mac gives the Bobcats an amazing swingman, plus they have Gerald Wallace already. Emeka Okafor is growing, Raymond Felton is an emerging star, and Matt Carroll is a very good 3-point shooter. The Bobcats could be turned around if they do this.

Not a bad proposition, but I think CHA is content with Richardson at this point and would be wary about taking on an oft injured McGrady in return despite the potential benefit.

I agree. Get rid of T-Mac as he is an individual star but not a good team player and get some youth who want to play as a team and build for a championship starting next year cuz Rockets in 2008 are not West Champ Worthy.

For some reason I was just thinking of teams that T-Mac could be dealt to and the Bobcats just jumped into my mind.

Figure that the Rockets would trade him back East and the Bobcats can easily take back the 18 million salary.

Hova,

Man this is a tough call for me. While I love T-Mac's game I just don't think he has the "stuff" to be the MAN. If he when to Charotte he would be a Big Fish in a relative small pond. At this point in his career T-Mac isn't much of an upgrade from J-Rich. I think Houston would win in such a trade, because J-Rich would go in knowing Yao is the man and could play second option to Yao.

Currently Houston hasn't said Yao is the guy here and T-Mac continues to be the face of the franchise. I say send him to New Orleans for Peja, Mo Pete, and whomever. BTW: Don't sleep on the Hornets.

I like the idea. It seems like a good trade but you never know what's going through GMs' minds. Nice blog.

Seems good. The Shake-Up could do both teams good.

January 15, 2008  05:19 PM ET

Nice thought. And, I think it could work. Certainly they need to put butts in the seats in Charlotte, and this could do the trick.
SoFlaBoy's got it right. Don't go to sleep on the Hornets...and I'LL add, don't sleep on the Wizards either!! That game last night wore me out!!
I had my doubts in the 4th quarter. I'm not gonna lie to you. But, Caron and my boys pulled it out @ the end. NO Gil?? NO problem.
Back to that potential trade: let's see if MJ thinks like you.

I really never thought about it that way. McGrady hasn't been healthy long enough to mesh with Yao. I think if he were consistently in the line-up, things might be a little different--which is also the reason he would be difficult to trade.

Thanks guys.

SoFla Boy: You got a good point. Actually when I was writing this, I kept saying out loud and to myself that Houston would kill in this trade.

I think Houston would have to give up one more guy for that trade to go through. I think Dikembe Mutombo could make it work. Having a (very) seasoned vet that could help Okafor and that could come off the bench and play a few minutes a game would be good. I don't think Mutombo can still block 2 shots a game, even he played 30 mpg, but at 7'2" he's still a presence in the middle. He also has a low salary so it wouldn't throw off that balance too much.

Good Blog, And i agree that Yao would be better without McGrady.

Houston is already giving Charlotte an 18 million dollar contract in McGrady. However, I do think the addition of Mutombo would help Okafor's development.

I've always been a fan of the Bobcats and believe that they had chances to become good. Getting a player of T-Mac's caliber is great. Ecspecially because of the youth. With Felton, Wallace, T-Mac, Okafor, Mohammed. and May, McInnis, and Carrol of the bench, that team could be a true contender in the East (if McGrady stays healthy.)

Captain Sunshine: I wonder if he regrets leaving the Magic now?

January 21, 2008  03:00 PM ET

Great job, EJ, as usual

But I think Bobcats like Richardson......Jordan probably thinks J-Rich is a poor poor man's Jordan......

Harrington actually would help them at the 4 and he can play a little 5 as well.....

Hollins will be in the Development League in another year or 2, all he really does is block shots and he is way too skinny......He might be the player they waived......

But nice blog.......

As usual
