I admit it..., I've been a Leafs fan for a long time and, this version of the Leafs just makes me wanna curl up under a rock and hibernate 'til 2010! There was a time, a short time ago in fact, that the Leafs were one of the best teams in the NHL, made it to the conference finals and almost to the Cup. But alas..., as a lot of teams tend to do lately, they've been bottoming out and are presently, as of the time I write this, one point ahead of a former Stanley Cup championship team, the Lightning! And by weeks end, they could dead last..., I say I hope so! Now, I am giving up on this team..., but they need to seriously reevaluate the team, their goals and lastly their management skills if they even wanna get to the playoffs in a few years! There's talk about bringing back Fletcher or signing Bowman..., I'd take Fletch over Bowman. Why? He singlehandely orchastrated some of the biggest deals and FA signings in club history and turned the team from losers to success. The deal to land Gilmour was a steal for the Buds..., getting Sundin from Quebec was a huge trade as well (even though Clark went the other way) but, after the 'pulse' starting getting dimmer around 95, they dealt Doug to Jersey to wind down a great career and, everything went kind of downhill. Sure they made the Conference finals in 2001 but Carolina ended their dream. If the Leafs want back into the playoffs..., send in a demolition expert and blow this team apart! Keep the younger guys, Stajan, Wellwood, Steen..., unload McCabe, Sundin, Gill, Kubina, Tucker? You'd get back some serious draft picks and young, quick talent that will make this team one to be feared..., it happened in Pittsburgh right? Bottom out a few years..., get high picks and hopefully, the Leafs will be back in the playoffs. Key word 'hopefully'! This team lacks something that Fletcher, and Gilmour, gave to them in 1992..., heart! A hard working team, built around heart and aspiration was made the Leafs a success in the '90's and if they wanna get back there..., it's what they need right now. It's been 41 years since Lord Stanley has resided in Toronto (I was born 6 years to day later!!!) and it'll be another 41 until it comes back unless they do something huge..., something for the good of the city and the diehard fans who pay their hard earned $$$ to see this team. Me not included!
