Yup, that was quite difficult for me to type and to come to terms with, but I did it...Portland is lottery bound.
Why the skepticism so early?
First of all, this is becoming quite an interesting season in the NBA every since the KG deal. Last week it was Gasol, and now it's Shaq going to PHX. And this leads me to my pessimism...Portland has NOT played the Lakers or Suns yet this season. I do think, however, we have a better chance of beating PHX than LA now that Shaq joins the Suns.
Also, with the 4 game road trip coming up, I see them only beating the Pacers, and even that is very iffy. In other words, they better win tonight's @#$%^&* game against the Bulls!
You feeling my gloomy forecast yet? I think by the time the smoke clears after the All Star break, Portland will be about 5-6 games out of the playoffs and they won't be able to catch GS, HOU, nor DEN unless we are talking about injuries to those teams (where the hell is Tanya Harding when we need her???).
The upside of my pessimism? Well, it means another lottery pick where a lot of high-end Freshmen will be coming out this year. But there is also comfort knowing that either GS, DEN, or HOU will also have to miss the playoff along with Portland, and one of those three teams will certainly be more devastated than Portland.
Moral of the story? Portland should change its mindset from being a playoff contender to being a playoff spoiler for everyone else. You know, it's the old "if I don't go, then you don't get to go either" attitude.
What do you think, me jumping off the wagon too soon, mentally ill, or being realistic? It hurts to say all this about my favorite team. I even issued a TD a while back saying they would make the playoffs. But reality (at least according to me) is a be-itch. Oh well, it is what it is.

Either way, you gotta a lot of hope for your franchise. Significant improvement this year, Greg Oden next year. My team went to the lottery 13 years in a row. Now THAT is something difficult to type.

Report Offensive CommentGet a true point guard and the 8th spot is yours. Honestly, missing the playoffs wouldn't be a bad thing for the Blazers. With the West getting stronger maybe coming close to the playoffs is the experience and inspiration these Blazers need.

Report Offensive CommentI keep hearing that Kevin Pritchard is in love with Chris Paul and Deron Williams, who just happens to be FA when Portland will be some $24 mil under the cap in 09. Makes you want to say HHMMMMM.

Report Offensive CommentAs much as I'd love to see one of them playing alongside Roy, Oden, et al, I don't see it happening. Sorry, dude.
Then again, who saw the trade of O'Neal for Marion coming? ****???

It's been a rough day for you I know. Hang it there man...you might be surprised yet again. Shaq already told Nash that he won't let him down.
Stay tuned...cuz the West is going to have itself a beat down on each other and that is why I say this is Boston's year.

Report Offensive CommentWell, you know what I think about Oden. I like this team. This is the NBA's surprise of the season--along with the Hornets. I think they can do it. The Rockets will fold down the stretch.

But in a couple years, Lakers-Blazers will be renewed in earnest with Gasol, Bynum, Kobe capable of being the next dynasty alongside Portland in the west

Report Offensive CommentBeing the youngest team in the league, it's not the young legs that gets them, it's the pressure of maintaining their place that is affecting them right now.
They got themselves to this position and got everyone's attentions, but now seems to not know how to play as a team that is being hunted. As poised as these guys have been, they are indeed showing their immaturity on the court.
