Speechless. That was my response to Belichick's response to being caught videotaping opponents.
"Part of my job as head coach is to ensure that our football operations are conducted in compliance of the league rules and all accepted interpretations of them," Belichick said in his statement. "My interpretation of a rule in the constitution and bylaws was incorrect."
INCORRECT???? That is what blows my mind! You have been cheating your entire coaching career with the Patriots (since 2000 season), and the best you can say is that you were incorrect????? Now, if your defense is that you just didn't know it was cheating, chew on this, Bill:
A memo was sent to NFL head coaches and general managers on Sept. 6th, 2006, which was long before the Patriots were caught cheating against the Jets! The memo, from league executive vice president of football operations Ray Anderson said the following, "Videotaping of any type, including but not limited to taping of an opponent's offensive or defensive signals, is prohibited on the sidelines, in the coaches' booth, in the locker room, or at any other locations accessible to club staff members during the game."
Was Coach Bill's interpretation wrong, as he says, or is he just a cheater?
Give me some feedback. Want to hear it, whatever it is. Am I crazy or is Coach Belichick??

No, he isn't crazy, He's just a cheater. I believe Pittsburgh or hell, the NFC team that played in that years title is owed the 2004 Superbowl. They should be stripped of their titles and Belicheat should be fired. What drives me crazy is that these New England fans always say, "It's not like other teams weren't doing it." Are you kidding me?!? They need to take their arrogance and denial of wrong doing and shove it.

It's ridiculous to think that Belichick, supposedly the greatest foot ball mind of our time would write this off as a simple mistake. He knew what he was doing, and he had to have known it was against the rules.
And Steelerfan83, I agree completely that the whining cry of the Pats fans has become all too common these days. And even if it were the case, just because other pepole are breaking the rules doesn't mean it's ok for you too as well, but maybe they don't believe in the high road in bean town.
The football gods vengence was known on the superbowl, and the Pats will be good next year, with an ancient core of players on defense that just keeps getting older, and losing Samuel, and others for sure in free agency. They won't be quite the treat they were.. of course that means they will go 14-2 instead
Now all we need is to emblazen all of their trophies since 2000 with a big black asterisk.

Good Point. See here's my thing, Marion Jones was stripped of her medals for taking steroids. Now I know that these are two completely different organizations, but apparently cheating is cheating, and it should be weighed the same. At least she felt bad about it and was sincerely apologetic. . We'll see if they're willing to spend the money to change all this or if they'll grant the Pats wishes and let it blow over. Good blog by the way, Dylan

What about the 3 Yankees World Series titles won with Clemens and Pettitte? Pettitte admitted cheating and Clemens looks like he's in phase 1 of the Marion Jones saga: denial. I think you could argue that without those two winning WS games there's no way the Yankees would have won.
Honestly, I think the only way to solve these cheating scandals is to prove that no matter how far in the future we discover that they were cheating, that they're acheivements will be taken away from them. Otherwise, they'll find ways to avoid detection and profit in the short term.

Bill Belicheat's lying is only the tip of the iceberg. How about Commissioner Roger Goodell? When the story first broke that the Patriots spied on the Jets, Goodell assured everyone that that was an isolated incident and that there was no proof the Pats had cheated prior to that 2007 season-opener. He then destroyed any and all evidence. Along comes Senator Alen Specter, who recently challenged Goodell, who in turn now admits that Belicheat spied on several teams, including four times on the Steelers, and the spying dates back to the 2000 season. What a revelation!!! The problem Specter faces is that everyone, I mean EVERYONE, connected with the NFL, including Steelers owner Dan Rooney and former Steelers coach Bill Cowher, are in on Goodell's ``dirty little secrets.'' Everyone, I mean EVERYONE, wants Specter to go away and for this serious matter to simply disappear. Even ESPN is down playing obvious lying and corruption within the NFL. But when the dust finally settles and Specter eventually gets to the bottom of all this, two things need to happen: BOTH Belicheat and Goodell are fired, and a class-action lawsuti filed against the NFL on behalf of all fans who atended all three Super Bowls in which the Pats were victorious in an attempt to attain cash refunds for those over-priced and fraudulent tickets.

The league will never strip them of their titles (unless Congress forces the issue)? Why? Because it creates too big of a mess. Who do you give the title to if you do? The NFC Champions from those years? What about the teams the Pats beat in the AFC Championship games those years? They could just as easily make the argument that they would have been playing in the Superbowl if the Pats hadn't cheated, and since there's no guarantee that the NFC team would have won, they'd have a valid argument. Or for that matter, what about the teams who lost to the Pats in earlier rounds of the playoffs? It goes on and on. In Marion Jones case, it was a race, and it's clear who came in 2nd. It's not so clear in a playoff situation.

PS - On a side note, I give Dan Rooney credit for taking the high road. And Cowher too, from what I heard on the radio.
Even though the Pats may have cheated, there's no guarantee that the Steelers or anybody else would have won those games on a level playing field. Unfortunately, the world has been robbed of the chance to ever know who SHOULD have been champions those years, assuming the Pats did cheat in those games.
The best thing the league could do is the asterisks approach, combined with suspensions, fines and other penalties.
The thing that really annoys me is that the league allowed it to be perceived that the penalties issued were for the Jets game, not the entire history of the cheating, as it appears to be the case now. When I thought it was just for the Jets game, I thought it was an appropriate punishment. Now, if this was standard operating Patriots procedure for the last 6-7 years, it seems they got off very light.
