Well the season is under way and we were all glued to the tv's yesterday. Watching as the toyota bunch almost stunk up the show. but thanks to some sharp driving and the "just racing" luck we had an american car in victory lane. Ryan Newman took it home and he was followed by team mate Kurt Busch, along with a pack of dodges behind him.. the HMS dream team didn't fair so well and Dale jr.s hopes of sweeping the big race didn't pan out like he had hoped he did seem dejected after the race, although he was strong all day. My driver Kasey Kahne made a very good showing coming home 7th behind dodge teammate Elliott Sadler who rode at the back most of the day, Kasey did get the 5 bonus points for leading a lap and spent almost all day in the top 10 showing how strong he was at a track where he hasn't had very good luck. If this is a sign of things to come from the G.E.M. team then this is going to be a very good year.

Although there was lots of talk about the top 35 rule keeping a few drivers out of the race it was a good race. The top 35 rule has been the topic of lots of speculation this past off season and NASCAR really needs to look at it but it won't so we are stuck with it and see where it goes.

I am looking forward to this year as we head for calif.  and I hope that this year proves to be a good year for NASCAR and all of its drivers, especially the G.E.M. team!!!! GO KASEY KAHNE!!

I am so glad that the 500 was won by a Dodge (first and second) as opposed to Toyota....I knew the Toyo's would pick up this season, but I am surprised that they are showing so strong so soon.....I know they will win one, but thank God it was not the big one.
And Kasey was consistently good through the whole race...I hope this is a sign of good things to come for him this year.
As for Jr....even though not winning was a letdown, he was the only strong one right to the end for HMS (Casey almost was too) and he finished in the top 10. Considering all the heavy competition out there and the pit communication problem, that is still an immense improvement over 2007. He needs to maintain that confidence he had after the Shootout and the Duel #1.
I think so many teams will do much better than they did last year, and that can only make the races so much better to watch.

I think attrition of the favorites was one of the reasons the Penske guys came to the front at the end. It's all about having the right stuff at the end and they sure did.

Rookie Sam Hornish did a great job of staying near the front all day.
Too bad for Jeff Burton. Leading at the restart with 3 to go and gets shuffled back to 13th.
Clint Bowyer goes for another spin this year. At least he kept all 4 tires on the ground this year.
I think the new chassey was one of the reasons there wasn't a huge wreck. There were opportunities (David Ragan, Jimmie Johnson, Dave Blaney are a few of the incidents that come to mind that could have led to the big one).
Come on Fox, do we really need a 90 minute pre race show? With it being the biggest race of the year, a 30 minute pre race segment then jump in with pre race festivities and drop the green flag.
