Gentlemen Prefer Golf

Of the many tales I've told in this space, most tend to border (or at least attempt to) on humor. But there's one aspect of caddying (and being around golfers) that I haven't shared with you. And that's the gentlemanly potential of the game.

When I greet my players, it's always "hats off" in a show of respect (and it goes both ways). I hear things like, "so nice to see you," good to see you again," how's teaching," and "thank you." Golf has the capacity to bring out the best in human behavior. I wish I could count the number of times I've heard one member in a group invite another to their course, to "have dinner with us" or "give me a call" after a round.

Watching weeekend warriors engaged in a spirited nassau or skins game all the while cheering each other on, is a welcome respite from the competitive grind of daily living. As a caddy, I'm into it too. To me, there's nothing like the partnership and camaraderie of a round of golf "on the bag." It's so rewarding to have my player ask me for an opinion on a shot or to chat idly between shots. It's a team sport when done right and I always try my best to do just that.

I once heard that "the higher up you go in a quality organization, the nicer you'll find the people." And, by and large, I have found this to be true.

Good blog. You know a lot about golf. Golf is a relaxing sport, that brings out the nice side in people.

Another great blog, RUGator. As a caddy, I know what you mean. It is very rewarding.

Actually they are refreshing and interesting.
Don't answer this if you feel it is too personal, but what does a caddy get paid?
