Let me start out that in this order, I am a baseball fan, a fan of pitching, and I am a Clemens fan.  With Roger ready to make his first start on Saturday I was thinking about a few things.  I had a chance to look at the record of Yankees starting pitchers so far this year and not surprisingly it is isn't stellar at 19-21 which tells me one of the reasons that Roger chose the Yankees, more on that later.  Petite has put up solid numbers but only has 3 wins to show for it and the rookie Clippard has looked pretty good as well.  After that the rotation is a disaster for a number of reasons.  So here are my thoughts, one of the main reasons that Clemens chose the Yankees is that he only has to be decent in order to be better than what they have now! He'll probably get between 15 and 20 starts depending on his health and if he gets  a decision in say 2/3 of those games and wins say 8 games or so he'll look like a god compared to the mess that is there now.  I have always like the way Clemens has played the game, hard-nosed, doesn't back down and he knows how to pitch.  I think he still has enough in the tank to win 10 games this year, even if he is a 6 inning guy now like everyone is saying.  The cool thing for him is that the Yankees almost have to play better as a team the rest of the season making his role a bit easier.  And it cracks me up when people get on him for just playing half a season for so much money and getting special treatment in his contract.  The guy is a first ballot hall of famer, he deserves whatever a team will give him, probably more.

He chose the Yanks for 27+ million reasons........the last 2 years he wanted to be close to family.........what happened to that?.........I agree w/you about his hard-core nature.......he's pitched in some BIG games, BIG venues.........gotta respect that........BUT......his family plan, and not being w/the team EVERY day, is BS..........He should be in that dug-out w/some of his other hall-of-fame team-mates.........

I just want to see him pitch and not see the other theatrics w/him......

And yes, Stern does blow.........

You neglect to mention that Roger Clemens is a terrible piece of dog doo. He is not even the best pitcher over 40 years old. Jessie Orosco was better than him, so was Satchel Paige and the best pitcher over 40 was Nolan Ryan who is my uncle. He is also a monkey's uncle and licks popcicles for money, so he is a popcicle prostitute.

I dissagree with the point that Ryan Howard will not win the MVP of the universe. Just because he is not from Pennsylvania doesn't mean that he can't play tennis.
