Does anyone out there seriously believe that the state of MLB pitching is not deplorable ? Although the talent pool has grown smaller over the years, the expanded number of teams, rotations gone from four to five starters, and the need for arms in the bullpen, has increased the number of pitchers carried by every team. These things are not going to change any time soon, if ever. There is something MLB can do to help.
Mr. Selig, restore the height of the pitching mound to 15 inches. The reduction in mound height was done to give hitters more of an advantage, increase offense and bring more fans to the stands. All this has come to pass and now it is time to put the mound back the way it was. Abner would want it that way.
I was hoping to generate some response. Does anyone have an opinion regarding helping the pitchers regain some advantage. Buck Martinez spoke to this issue on MLB on XM yesterday. I paraphrase here, all the changes made to rules in baseball in recent years have been made to give more advantage to the hitter.
