Cup of Coffee 5/15 (Early Edition)

Welcome to another serving of the cup, lets get right into it...

Just another by the way on Matt Stairs...Grand Slam last night, if you haven't yet, pick him up.

Ok, moving on...I am now on the Daniel Cabrera bandwagon.

Sure, last nights start wasn't pleasing to the Fantasy eye (7IP 10H 3 ER 2 HR allowed and only 3 K's), but he got the win against the Red Sox.  He's now walked just 3 batters in the last 23.1IP.  That has always been his drawback.  If that is truly fixed, he is a must have in all leagues.  Some will be slow to pick him up because of his trackrecord, but I say get him now, even if you're not completley sold.  You can always stash him on the bench if you've got the room.  But keeping in mind this blog is for the guy who looks at his team, knows he needs something more but isn't sure where to get it.  Cabrera is a great pick up for this guy, don't wait around any longer.  Pick him up!

Bronson Arroyo

In many leagues he may still be on someones roster just because of his name, but in others he's been dropped because of too many bad outings (5/4 Vs Atl: 1.1IP 7H 1BB 7ER, 4/23 Vs. Hou: 3.2IP 10H 1BB 8ER, 4/18 Vs Mil: 5.2IP 5H 3BB 4ER, and a few other bad outings earlier in the year).  It looks like he may have things back on track.  His last two outings he's 1-0 15IP 9H 5BB 1ER 14K 0HR against the Mets and Marlins.  If you need to add pitching, Arroyo looks like a good pickup.

Stay away from:

Milwaukee closers

Is it Gagne? Mota? TorresShouse?

Forget about it!  I've never been a fan of a closing carousel, especially one this big!  Keep your eye on some other teams because there are sure to be a couple other guys who get jobs and will close 15-20 games.  You could miss one of those guys by paying too much attention to the mess in Milwaukee.  One guy to keep in mind is Scott Downs, right now he's gettin the saves in Toronto while BJ Ryan is working back to full strength.  If Ryan has any set backs then you'll see Downs move right in.

Kenji Johjima

What happend to this guy?  A good quality cather for the past 2 season, all of a sudden has Andruw Jones disease.  I say don't bother with this guy right now.  He had 3 straight games of multi hit games, and even a HR mixed in there, but that was just enough to get fantasy owners hopes up.  Since then hes 2-9 over the past 2 games.  Another drawback, he plays for Seattle.  The only life they've shown all year was in the brawl against Texas, other than that, the offense has been dead.  Keep an eye on Johjima, but don't pick him up.  There are plenty of other catchers producing more than him, some might not be playing every day.  But its better to have a guy hitting .315 with 4-5 HR and playing half the games, than have Johjima playing everday giving you an 0-4 most days.  Also, if he keeps it up, their young prospect Jeff Clement will start breathing down Kenji's neck for more playing time.

Have a great day of fantasy baseball and I'll talk to you again tomorrow!
