The Unitas Award Watch List was released today. The award is presented annually to the nation's top senior quarterback. This year's "long list" includes:

C.J. Bacher of Northwestern, Todd Boeckman of Ohio State, Rhett Bomar of Sam Houston State, Tom Brandstater of Fresno State, Hunter Cantwell of Louisville, Rudy Carpenter of Arizona State, Chase Clement of Rice, Chase Daniel of Missouri, Joe Ganz of Nebraska, Sean Glennon of Virginia Tech, Cullen Harper of Clemson, Graham Harrell of Texas Tech, Chase Holbrook of New Mexico State, Brian Hoyer of Michigan State, Will Hudgens of Memphis, Brian Johnson of Utah, Nate Longshore of California, Tyler Lorenzen of Connecticut, Stephen McGee of Texas A&M, Ben Olsen of UCLA, Curtis Painter of Purdue, John Parker Wilson of Alabama, Mike Teel of Rutgers, Willie Tuitama of Arizona, Pat White of West Virginia, and Drew Willy of University of Buffalo.

Regardless of the eventual winner, this is a list of players that college football fans will hear more about as the season progresses.

A Badger should've been named.

Does anyone really think that someone from Buffalo or New Mexico State is going to win this trophy, they shouldnt select a watch list until 3, 4, or 5 games through the season. You never know who might show up and play well.

CJ Bacher is a bit of a surprise. He's a talented guy but I don't know if he's even in the discussion of the Nation's best quarterback.

Yoh have to put Tyrod Taylor the nod ahead of Shawn Glennon because everywhere I've read on VT has him getting more playing time this season.

Chase Holbrook! ha.

Hunter Cantwell will suprise alot of people being behind Brian Brohm most of his career at UofL. He's a winner. And he has proved himself when Brohm was injured. Theres a reason he is named on this list not ever starting a whole year until given a chance his senior year! That's amazing!!

No Stafford, interesting. No Sanchez either.

Do they usually select the watch list from the previous year's stats?

June 14, 2008  12:33 PM ET

Boeckman isnt even then best QB on his team!

June 14, 2008  01:48 PM ET

This will be interesting if Sanchez remains off this list. Sanchez will lead USC to the National Championship -- when that happens, Boeckman, Tebow, and all of the others won't hold a candle to Sanchez' bright light!!! FIGHT ON!

I think this Olson kid from UCLA could be good if he stays healthy.

June 14, 2008  07:07 PM ET

I agree.

June 17, 2008  04:42 PM ET

Graham Harrell takes it.

June 18, 2008  04:39 PM ET

Um can you say PAT WHITE!
2-time Big East POY
1-Gator Bowl MVP
1-Fiesta Bowl OMVP
2-Alabama Athlete of the Year
Will break NCAA career QB rushing record owns Big East record already.

Ben Olson of UCLA is frail, slow, and predictable. The next time you see any UCLA rerun from 2007, watch this clown...He always rolls out of the pocket to the left!!! Everytime!

you have to be a senior 'how bout em'. thats why stafford isn't on there.
