The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is always somewhat ridiculous in how players are chosen - thanks to us idiot fans. We all must admit, we are biased when we vote online. I am no better than anyone else, and must admit as a San Diego Padres fan and huge Khalil Greene fan, I have voted for Greene almost daily, despite his absolutely horrible offensive statistics so far for NL shortstop. I know I'm wrong to do so, but I am pretty sure I'm not the only one in America clicking ridiculous votes based on my favorite team and players instead of logic (New York Yankee fans thinks their entire team should be on the AL Roster annually, so don't get me started).
Perhaps it's time for MLB to take the voting process in part away from us fans. We're idiots and deserve to have it taken away - as is proven every year when you see the final rosters.
But as a Padres fan, there is one player I should not be questioned about when voting. San Diego first baseman Adrian Gonzalez is a legitimate vote and clearly should be on the NL All-Star roster. With all due respect to other first basemen have geat years, specifically Houston's Lance Berkman (.360 batting average, 57 RBI, 19 homeruns, .704 slugging, .445 onbase according to mlb.com), as well as Philadelphia's Ryan Howard, and Atlanta's Mark Teixeira, Gonzalez is making the most impact at the position in the National League. The Padres, at one point clearly the worst team in baseball are finally climbing out of the hole. And Gonzalez is a big reason. This morning, according to mlb.com, (Sunday, June 15), Gonzalez leads the NL with 62 RBI, and shares the lead in the NL with 19 homeruns. He's respectable elsewhere with .359 onbase, .561 slugging, and 15 doubles. Of theleading firstbasemen, Adrian is clearly the most overlooked (just like starting pitcher Chris Young was last year at this time for the Padres) at the position in the National League. This guy should be on the NL All-Star Roster.
Please fans, vote for Adrian Gonzalez. Go ahead make your own ridiculous votes for your favorite players from your team (of course I don't have to tell this to Yankees fans who think they're entitled to it because of the All-Star Game venue this summer). But at least, make one logical vote here - Adrian Gonzalez, First Base.

As a matter of fact, I do. Can someone please explain to me why Ian Kennedy is not starting?! :)

A-Gon is a monster. Have him on my fantasy team. All the guy does is get an RBI a night.

all-star voting is a popularity contest. Your right though, A. Gonzalez doesn't get enough credit, probably because he's with the Padres. If he were in NY or Boston they'd be talking about him every night. I'd vote for him.

Yeah, Coletrain. Why isn't Khalil Greene leading off the for the NL?!
Thanks for reading as always and understanding my humor/style when it comes to Yankee hatred.
