Orginally i made a throwdown on this but so far 2 peoplehave acceppted then declined so i decided to blog it.
Here is how the orignialy starting five was going to be when last year ended.
Ace- Josh Beckett
#2- Dice-K
#3- Schilling
#4- Tim Wakefield
#5- Lester/Clay
Now what the Red Sox didnt imagine was Clay,Beckett, and Dice K all going on the DL at different points in the season and Schilling missing the whole year. Did this stop the Red Sox from have a very good pitching roation. No it did not because they had other guys who stepped up and did well.
Beckett goes out and Dice K goes 8-0 with a 2.54 ERA
Dice K goes out and Lester picks it up an is 6-3 with a 3.18 ERA
Schilling goes out and is replaced by Colon who before going on the DL himself just recently was 4-2 with a 4.04 ERA.
And the guy who was called up to make a spot start or two but has stayed in the bigs due to injures, Justn Masterson is 4-1 with a ERA of 3 in 6 starts.
Then there is who they have in the minors in case of emergancies:
Charlie Zink a knuckeballer who ha been tutored by Wake and has a 8-2 2.14 ERA at AAA.
Micheal Bowden one of our top SP prospects has a 6-3 record and 2.2 ERA in AA.
David Pauley who has made starts in the bigs before has a 9-2 record and a 3.78 ERA for Pawtucket.
Kris Johnson who has been compared to Cliff Lee by many scouts and is 5-3 with a 3.58 ERA so far in Portland.
Chris Smith who in his MLB debut yesterday allowed 1 ER in 4 IP of relief and in 42 innings of AAA had a 1.52 ERA.
