Just when I thought it was safe to put this place in "cold storage" for the summer, this piece of news crosses my path:

"The Mullet" has returned to the NHL.

That's right, boys and girls; Barry Melrose--who we all thought would always be comfortable being an analyst for ESPN--has decided to give coaching another go-around. He's the new coach of the Lightning.

Well, I can't fault his choice. He's got talent to work with there. Now that Vincent Lecavallier...God, I know I must've spelled it wrong...signed a new deal today, that makes Tampa Bay more than capable of righting the ship after the disaster of this season.

My only question I have is, just how much money did they throw at Melrose to make him leave ESPN?? It's gotta be mondo dinero, that's for damned sure. Hey, all I can do is wish the guy luck...but not too much. After all, he's in the same division as the defending Southeast Division champion Capitals. (That's so good to write that.)

On a side note, blog #298 is in the books. Two more to #300...
