The epiphany has happened. All-American sports has ended. We have surrendered, and so have I. Lets go back 5 days ago. 0-0 Coatria and Turkey. We all know what happens next, right? If you are nodding yes, stop right there. If you are an American, take a long look at yourself. Soccer? Soccer has finally started to catch on. It won't completely until we have a competitive US Soccer team though.
People will be watching the World Cup than the Super Bowl in America. Imagine that. Why is this happening? Because the Soccer guys were right, we are very prone to liking Soccer. We laughed when they brought in Beckham, when Manchester United and Chelsea was said to have US appeal. But I know I watched it, and it was pretty exciting.

Well, almost. Let's hope Lineker's definition of football as a sport of two squads of eleven guys where the Germans win goes bust this year. I'm all for Spain, but if Hiddink's men win today I'll be just as happy to root for Russia. This year, at last we have a shopwindow tournie and it's yum-yum all over, certainly toward the end.
Whatever people in this country - where they oddly speak of "soccer" - may think of it, we have a banner event for the sport on our hands.

No way more Americans would watch the World Cup than the Super Bowl. Soccer's 'audience' in this country is miniscule by comparison.
