In case if you haven't noticed the NBA draft occured last night. I'm going to break down the big winners and the big losers based on my opinion and who was available when they picked. I understand it is a little early to tell, but I still believe some teams had much better drafts than others.
My Winners:
Portland Trailblazers- Coming in to last night the Trailblazers needed a point guard and a 2 or 3. They traded Brandon Rush and Jarrett Jack for Jerryd Bayliss and Ike Diogu. Point Guard problem is solved. Then when they bought the twenty seventh pick from the New Orleans Hornets they drafted Darrell Arthur. Then wih the second round pick they picked Joey Dorsey. They had no roster room so they traded Dorsey and Arthur to Houston for Nicolas Batum. Bottom line is that they got quality players that were available and filled their needs.
Memphis Grizzlies- The Grizzlies drafted Kevin Love with the number five overall pick and drafted Donte Greene with the number twenty eight overall pick. They traded Love and others for O.J. Mayo and others. Then they traded Greene to Houston for Darrell Arthur. They got their big man and a prolific scorer in O.J. Mayo. They had a solid draft.
New Jersey Nets- The Nets received a gift at number ten. Brook Lopez fell to them and they drafted him. And then they got a very talented Ryan Anderson at number twenty one. Lastly, with their second round pick they were lucky enough that Chris Douglas-Roberts fell to them. They obviously are trying to build their team on inside presence and physical toughness. They were the thieves of this draft.
My Losers:
Seattle (or Oklahoma City) Supersonics- Russell Westbrook is a nice talent, but he is not a top five pick. They passed on two great point guards in Jerryd Bayliss and D.J. Augustin. Plus, if they had drafted Love or Lopez their frontcourt would have been incredible for years to come. They got D.J. White, but he is not nearly as good as Love or Lopez. If they're trying to stay in Seattle, this draft isn't helping.
Charlotte Bobcats- We got point guards for sale here. Not only do they have Raymond Felton and Earl Boykins from their current roster, but they drafted two more. D.J. Augustin and Kyle Weaver. I don't think this will help Felton. These picks say that Felton most likely will not be the future starter. Point Guards are great. Just not when you have four or five.
Sacramento Kings- With the twelth pick in the 2008 NBA draft the Sacramento Kings select Jason Thompson? With who was on the board here this was a bad pick. They could have gotten Anthony Randolph, Robin Lopez, Darrell Arthur, or even Brandon Rush. If you ask me I would have picked Brandon Rush here. He can shoot the three and would get open looks because of Kevin Martin attracting most of the attention. Jason Thompson was a terrible pick.
That just about sums up my winners and my losers this year. If you were upset or pleased with your teams picked even though I called them a winner, a loser, or just didn't mention them, just tell me via comment. Thanks for reading this blog and good luck to your favorite team this year.

Considering you question the pick of Gallinari, I expected you would have the Knicks in your losers.

In my teams defense we never had a good backup point guard and now we have one in Augustin, he can shot the three and is a great driver, kinda reminds me of Deron Willimas. Also the guy from France is gonna be a good player, hes big and would have been picked in the top 5 if not for his contract concernes. Then theres Weaver the next Bruce Bowen without the shot. Weaver is big (6'6) and fast. He has nice moves but on defense is where he shines, he hustles and thats all you could want out of a second round pick

Report Offensive CommentBy the way the Kings got a steal in Thomson. As most people dont know he averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds. At 6'11 he will become a solid pro and as an added bonus hes a great 3 point shotter
