I totally agree with Stephen Cannella. Baseball needs to get rid of the travesty that is interleague play.  Do you realize that the Boston Red Sox only play the New York Yankees 17 times this year? I think I speak for all of us when I say that that is not nearly enough. The sports media does not spend enough time covering Alex Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, Derek Jeter and David Ortiz. Now you want to bring in teams from far-flung places like Arizona and Colorado to New York and Boston so they can draw media attention away? I don't think so. Just last night ESPN's Sports Center devoted a whole five minutes to some team called the Rays from Florida. Like they'll go anywhere.  So what if people missed out on seeing Barry Bonds hit in Yankee stadium. If you wanted to see Barry Bonds you should have booked a trip to San Francisco and bought tickets to Candlestick Park like everyone else. MLB does not revolve around the fan. Baseball fans have to adjust to the MLB, and that is that.

American league pitchers are falling by the ones, having to run around the bases. Famed baseball expert Hank Steinbrenner did us all a favor by pointing out this insane situation. Get with the 21st century National League! Stop treating pitchers like athletes and start treating them like one-trick ponies! Can you think of one pitcher in the whole history of baseball that went on to be remembered more for his hitting than his pitching? Watching pitchers at bat is painfully awkward. Like giving a cat a bath or ordering regular coffee at Starbucks.

Last week the Yankees had to play a day game at Yankee stadium and then take a bus ride across town to play the Mets. Along with suffering the indignity of taking a bus the players had to endure a thirty minute ride. I don't know how long your commute is but thirty minutes in New York city traffic seems excessive to me.

Look people, if you want to see interleague play then go watch hockey. The NHL is shamelessly kowtowing to the fans by having every team play every other team in the league at least once this season. It's almost as if the NHL feels it owes the fan an entertaining and diverse experience.

The Fans like interleague play, it increases ticket sales, it is here to stay. The 19 games the Yanks play the Red Sox, inter division, is already unbalaced, and for the same reason as interleague play, the fans want more of it.
Interleague play is unfair in its unbalanced approach for division rivals, teams don't play the exact same teams, Boston is not playing the Mets, etc, but it increases profits because clearly the fans like it.

Yeah Babe Ruth!!!!

I really had Babe Ruth in mind when I wrote that. Here Hank Steinbrenner is complaining about pitchers having to hit and run the bases, when the most famous Yankee of all time was a pitcher and then one of the greatest sluggers of all time.

Felix Hernendez also. His only ML at bat and he crushed it for a Grand Slam to opposite field. I would love to see Felix bat more and see if he can hit more HR's....

Kerry Wood has hit has 7 home runs in his career. Dontrelle Willis had 8 homers in the bigs before being sent down to single A this year. I would love to see Mariano Rivera at bat one more time.
