The SoccerNation Report- 7/3/08

Before I get started, I need to say that the SoccerNation Summer Shootout Tourney field is now set.  All 32 people are locked in and the brackets will be out in 2 to 3 days.  The tourney will start Monday.  If any of you aren't going to be avaible at a certain date then please let me know so when can arrange the brackets to your schedule.  We will try our best to accomadate you, but no promises.

The Big Deal- Have you seen Argentina's Olympic team?  My god, it's practically the team that played and beat freaking Egypt!  Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero are on this roster and I have to say one thing to the AFA, great job!  Brazil's Kaka had asked to participate but his club (AC Milan) pitched a fit about him playing in it.  Now, if a football player wants to play football why can't not let them play?  These guys have dreams to and I'm just glad that Argentina has decided to let the big boys play.  A few other guys included on the squad are Mascherano, Riquelme, and Ustari.  Well, you want a favorite to win the Olympics, you got it.

Something that Interests Me- Jo to Manchester City.  Once-capped Brazilan Jo is now headed to Manchester City from CSKA Moscow for an 'undisclosed' fee said to be a club record-fee.  The striker has a powerful left-foot that has dominated the Russian League since his start in the league.  I haven't seen the kid but he has to have a very large upside and I think he will be very good one day.  But for some reason I don't think he'll be the record-fee man anymore if Ronaldinho decided to come to the City of Manchester Stadium.  We'll just have to see how this turns out.

Yesterday's Big Game- Well, the Copa Libertadores was a great one.  For those lucky few that saw it I have to say congrats.  LDU Quito walked into Maracana and somehow ended up taking that title out of there.  Thiago Nieves scored three times for Fluminese to help them win the second leg 3-1.  This made it 5-5 on aggregate and forced it into PK's.  In penalties, the Ecaudorians were able to pull it out and win the Copa Libertadores.  They will join Manchester United and Pachuca in the FIFA Club World Cup in December.

Today's Game to Watch- Well, it's put-up or shut up time for the team I love to hate.  Real Salt Lake take on the Houston Dynamo for the #1 place in the Western Conference.  Rice-Eccles Stadium will host probably the biggest match in club history tonight.  And what better stadium to play it in that that crappy, football field but I'll stop there.  Look for RSL to use their "speed" to navigate down the pitch and look for Houston to find the head of Brian Ching and the foot of Dwayne De Rosario.  If you don't have anything to do at 10 tonight, then check it out.  And i'm going on the record saying that I hope RSL lose, and lose badly.

Thanks again to ESPNsoccernet, google, and mlsnet.com and thanks  for your time.  I hope you liked it.  If you are an author and would like to do the Daily Report one day then let me know a day or two in advance.  It's been Keeper and I'm out.

Good blog. I remember seeing Jo and Alexandre Pato play for Brazil in the Under 21 tournament in Canada last year and I came away pretty impressed with Jo. I think he's going to have a good showing for City.

Really good blog Keeper. Argentina is for real. I'll second that emotion.

I'm watching the Dynamo-RSL match right now. Scoreless at 60 minutes. Not quite what I was hoping for. This is turning out to be a good match!

Argentina is definitely the favorite again. But I think the 2004 Argentine olympic team was WAY better. Look up Tevez's goal against the Italians on that tournament.

Copa Libertadores is always exciting, probably more so than the Champions League because its unpredictable and the atmosphere in every stadium is electric.

Too bad Boca didn't win, i would have loved to watch Tevez take on his beloved Boca

You are correct. Jo is going to have a huge impact with City.

Cheers.
