Destiny to be Decided

Less than six hours from now, one man will equal a record that has not been seen since the likes of the great Bjorn Borg. The question is who will that man be? On Sunday morning, Breakfast at Wimbledon will kick off with the greatest single rivalry in sports today. Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer will again face off for the Wimbledon crown, but, this time it bears even more meaning than just the tournament itself.

If Roger Federer wins the title, he will be only the second player in history to win six straight Wimbledon titles. Borg won five straight titles, so if Federer can win on Sunday, he will break his record for the modern era. Even though he plays at his best when he is on the grass of the All England Club, Federer will have to play better than he ever has before if he hopes to defeat his chief rival, Nadal, who has improved nearly every aspect of his game since his defeat in their epic five set battle last year. Perhaps Federer will take a page out of the book of one of his close friends, Tiger Woods, who seems to always come through in the clutch and never disappoints when records are on the line.

Rafael Nadal has never won Wimbledon, and yet many had him penned as the favorite to win this tournament. Just a few weeks ago at the French Open, Nadal trounced Federer, defeating him in straight sets. Since then, Nadal has been on a roll and has all of the momentum on his side. He won his first grass court title at the Queens Club, defeating Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick along the way, and he has looked solid all tournament long. Furthermore, he nearly defeated Federer last year and yet his entire grass court game has improved since then, especially his serve. If Nadal were to win the title on Sunday, he would be the first person to win the rare French Open-Wimbledon double since Bjorn Borg.

It will all be decided just a few hours from now. Destiny being decided at the All England Club between the two best players in the world, you can ask for much more than that!
