It's Tuesday, which means yet another installment of my "True Media Stories". Usually these are meant to be informative and light-hearted.

This week, however, I'm going to deviate slightly from the format...to address my (continuing) repugnance towards Peter Angelos. If this reads like an editorial, fine. So be it. And now, ladies and gentlemen, a rare treat from me: a "TMS" and editorial rolled into one.

There's an article in today's Washington Post (in the sports section) detailing how, according to the Nielsen people, the Nationals have the absolute worse viewership in all of Major League Baseball. It's an average of 9,000 viewers per game, as opposed to close to 20,000 for the Wizards (to cite the rundown in the story).

I blame Petey "the Racketeering Troll" for this.

Somewhere across my FN archives, in the "Radio Free Ashburn" blog, there's a piece I wrote on the history of MASN, the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network. This is the little thing Angelos extorted (and yes, I said extorted) from MLB to "indemnify" him from having the Expos moved to Washington. The equity is slanted towards Angelos more than the Nationals...about 60/40, I believe.

Anyway, the point I'm making is this: because of "the Troll" and his emnity towards the Washington area, not everyone here is aware that Nats games are seen on MASN2...which, for me, is where C-SPAN2 normally would be...as well as MASN itself. (Orioles games get preferential treatment as far as MASN goes.) If it weren't for our local paper(s) around here, I'd still be in the dark.

The logical answer, of course, would be for the Nats to opt out of their deal with MASN when it comes up for renewal--and then take the TV deal to Comcast/Mid-Atlantic, which used to show the Orioles before Petey "the Troll" created this disaster called MASN. But there's no telling just what the Lerners will do, to be honest.

All I know is, the front office needs to put a product out on the field that the fans (not just at the stadium, but watching at home) can be proud of, before this viewership sinks even lower than just the 9,000 per game being reported.

Here I was, racking my brain over what to write for the "TMS" series...and like a miracle, this falls in my lap. So there you have it. Part "TMS", and part editorial. God, what'll I write for this next week???

Till next time, I'm the Nut...and as always, thank you for reading.

If any of this doesn't make sense, this was more or less "on-the-fly" with me. I just wrote what came into my head...so, now you know that...

Actually, it's 9,000 viewers/game is what that is. But yeah, it stinks no matter HOW you put it.
(Meanwhile, the Nats have a 5-0 lead on Arizona in the bottom of the 7th; the game's @ Nats Park. How do the yeff THIS one up tonight, I wonder??)
