Just a day after the Millwaukee Brewers finalized a deal to acquire C.C. Sabathia, the Chicago Cubs retaliate by trading for Rich Harden of the Oakland Athletics. The deal was done just a couple hours ago via Sportscenter. The deal would go: Chicago gets- SP Rich Harden, RP Chad Gaudin, while the A's get: OF Eric Patterson, SP Sean Gallagher, OF Matt Murton, and C Justin Donaldson.
This ultimately gives the Cubs "The team to beat in the NL".
SP- Carlos Zambrano
SP- Ryan Dempster
SP- Rich Harden
SP- Ted Lilly
SP- Sean Marshall
This rotation gives them a nasty top 3, dangerous to opponents that could face them in a best of 5. The one thing that puts them over the Brewers trade is that the Cubs have a bullpen. With Marmol, Howry, and Wood in the back of the bullpen, along with the newcomer Chad Gaudin, the Cubs can close out a lead.
The Brewers were smart, wise, and took a risk to redeam themselves in the NL Central. But the Cubs were even smarter, to match that offer if and this is what this trade will be IF. IF. IF. If Rich Harden, can stay healthy.
