Coaching changes: Lost Special Teams coach John Harbaugh (now head coach of Baltimore). Promoted Rory Segrest as replacement.
Offensive line:
Changes - none. This is the best case scenario for a fantasy player heading into the season. All starters are back and played at least 15 games last year. The continuity is superb which makes their offense very reliable for fantasy purposes.
QB: Donovan McNabb is an excellent QB to target this year. His value is low due to perceptions about his health, and some uncertainty about his job (like the drafting of Kevin Kolb). However, his injury history is a bit overblown as he has averaged 13 games a year for the past 5. As for productivity, he has never thrown more than 13 INT's in a season, and has averaged 1.75 TD's 250+ yards per game over the last 4 years. Those are some very solid numbers. Last year he was still recovering from his torn ACL and got better as the year progressed. Expect a fair amount of improvement in 2008.
RB: Brian Westbrook is a top 5 back mainly due to his versatility. If your league awards points per receptions, he may even be the most valuable back out there. He posted 90 catches last season in addition to being the NFL's 3rd leading rusher in 2007. The only thing to be wary of with Westbrook is that his value has peaked. He won't get more carries, or more receptions in 2008 that he did in 2007. There's nowhere to go but down. Keep in mind that in six seasons, he has never played in all 16 games. He's still a very safe pick given his age and the stability of the Eagles offense.
WR: None of the Eagles wide receivers see enough targets to be considered great options in the fantasy world. Kevin Curtis caught 77 passes for 1110 yards, which seems great, until you notice how he got them. He was very sporadic. Hit and miss. 221 yards, 3TD's against the Lions, then 21 yds, 0 TD's the following week. Week to week consistency is invaluable when putting together your roster. That said, depending on your league Curtis may be undervalued since he is not a "name" receiver. Many folks may not realize that he was right in the same neighborhood as Plaxico Burress and Torry Holt in Fantasy points.
Reggie Brown was handed the number one receiving role after TO left, and didn't do much with it. He seems destined for a career full of seasons with 50-60 catches, 600-800 yards and a handful of TD's. Desean Jackson may be a flashy rookie, but don't draft him. Just don't.
TE: LJ Smith showed more potential than he has lived up to thus far. His 2007 season was marred by injuries so he may be undervalued going into 2008. His ceiling is about 50-60 catches for 600 yards. Certainly nothing thrilling. Borderline TE1/2.
Defense:
The Eagles defense was not as good as its statistics would indicate. While they had the 10th best defense based on yards per game, they had the fewest interception s in the NFL and tended to fold late in games.
On the defensive line, Chris Clemons will replace Jevon Kearse as a backup DE, but mostly the Eagles are banking on their younger players improving to make a difference in 08 (Bunkley, Patterson and draft pick Trevor Laws).
Takeo Spikes was booted out the door after starting all of 2007. Though that's likely not much of a loss as no other team has shown interest. Omar Gaither and Chris Gocong will start, and third round pick Stewart Bradley is penciled in as well. This is a thin group that will be an area of weakness for the team.
The secondary should be better with Asante Samuel in the mix. He replaces Lito Shepard who has been average at best ever since he made the Pro Bowl in 2004. Still Samuel is a gambler, and while he should get his share of Int's the defense as a whole may still give up some big plays at the wrong time. Overall the defense is a decent group, but not worth taking anywhere but with one of your last picks.
