The lastest news from the Green Bay PAckers and the NFL is that Brett Favre asked the team for his unconditional release. Brett Favre, after retiring earlier this year, is playing with the Packers heads and going from "I think I'll play" to "maybe not". He just can't seem to decide if its time to let former 1st round pick Aaron Rodgers finally start, or play another season for his team.

And I'm incredibly sick of it. Now, Brett Favre has always been one of my favorite players. I love his toughness, his consecutive games streak, his style, his winning attitude. I love how nice of a guy he is, and how he has gone through and addiction and a tough family life to become arguably the best QB in NFL history. And I love how he had such a spectacular season last year when no one thought he would. But my attitude is starting to change. I just don't know if I like Brett Favre anymore. This whole thing is ridiculous. He retired, and cried that his whole career was finally over. But he went out on top, having one of his best seasons, nearly winning a Super Bowl, and having one of his best seasons, and leading that team on a magical run. Few have gone out on a higher note. And now, Brett decides he wants to hold the Packers hostage. After they thoroughly prepared for Year 1 of the Aaron Rodgers era, Brett decides after mini camp that he kind of wants to play again. And after it seems that the Packers wouldn't budge, he asked for his release so he could go play for someone else, probably in the Packers' OWN DIVISION! So now, the Pack has to decide if they lock out Brett, pi/ss of Aaron Rodgers AGAIN and not let him play, or making him go play for an archrival. That's a lot of fun.

So imagine that Brett Favre comes back for, say, the Bears, comes back to play at Lambeau, gets booed mercilessly in his old home, and then, say, goes out and throws 12 TDs and 20 INTs, and the Bears go 4-12 with him, he gets hurt, then has to retire. Boy, what a way to go out. And that is a very realistic situation. DON'T DO IT!

So unless Brett stays reitired, I vow to never root for him again. It would prove I was wrong that he is a man with some real class. And that's a very sad turnaround for this NFL legend.

I think Brett's career will be a little tarnished by his indecision. Especially if he comes back and does worse than last year or gets hurt and is forced to retire. Will Brett have the same kind of enthusiasm playing for another team that he would have for his old Packers? It's a very hard decision for the Pack to let Brett to allow Brett to unretire then cut him. That will be a day that Green Bay fans thought they would never see.

I am a HUGE fan of Brett Favre and I too think that it is unprofessional for any player to come back after they have retired. I totally HATE when athletes do that. Like Junior Seau last year, he returns and goes to the Patriots.

When Jordan retired and came back for the thirtieth time, there was stuff like this, but no one remembered it 5 years later, except that he was the greatest. Same deal here...

Jordan's retirement was under very different circumstances, though.

You know I can understand how many hate when some vows to retire but comes back anyway and I do too but that doesn't mean you should stop rooting for a player you enjoy watching, you may hate what he has done not agreeing with their actions but still it doesn't make them a bad person, they just didn't know what to do or when to do it .... I can understand why one would be upset but, still shunning a player is a little overeactive.

I'm really confused with all of this media garbage, but this is what I'm getting out of it: Favre wants to come back, and the Packers, who already gave him a chance that he all but took, aren't enthusiastic because of the timing. So Favre asks for a release. The Packers aren't releasing him and are saying that if he wants to play he will have to be re-instated by Goodell as a Packer. Then when (or if) that happens they'll do "what's best for the team". Whether that is starting Favre, playing Rodgers, doing a double-barrel quarterback offense like the Cards did with Warner and Leinart last year, or trading him is up to the team. But they won't release him because if they decide to get rid of him they can get something out of it through a trade.

Personally Favre's my favorite player, the media is having fun predicting what will happen but saying they are actual reports from reliable sources, and I think the Packers' starting quarterback next year should be Brett Favre. The best thing for the team (as in success-wise) is Favre under center next year.

Good blog.
