When the NFL Draft rolls around each April.  ESPN promotes it's coverage by showing great players being drafted in the later rounds.  Their advertisements this year focused on Brian Westbrook, third round, and Tom Brady, sixth round.  What I think they should've focused on was the New York Giants' 2005 NFL Draft.  They didn't have a first round pick, but they used the first 3 picks they did have masterfully.

2nd round: CB - Corey Webster (LSU)

In the Wild Card Playoff Game against the Bucs, Webster intercepted a Jeff Garcia pass in the end zone.  In overtime of the NFC Championship game at Lambeau Field, Webster intercepted a Brett Favre pass that ended up winning them the game.

3rd round: DE - Justin Tuck (Notre Dame)

In the Super Bowl, Justin Tuck repeatedly brought pressure on Tom Brady, sacking him twice and forcing a fumble.  He had also had six tackles in the game.

4th round: RB - Brandon Jacobs (Southern Illinois)

Though he only started 9 games in 2007 due to injury, he compiled nearly 1,200 yards from scrimmage and had 6 TD.

So if their are any Pats fans who still want to know how this happened.  This is how it happened.

Good blog, and I never thought about it that way. Obviously, the 2007 draft that brought so many contributing rookies is the one garnering the attention, but yeah 2005 was pretty key as well.

Jacob's is a wreckingball. I remember when he came to Auburn spent a year as the 3rd string running back and then said **** guys I am leaving, and went to Southern Ill. Granted he shouldn't have been sitting behind Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams. If he can stay healthy there will be a lot of sad d-linemen and linebacker's in the NFL. This guy is large and fast.

And the 2007 draft as well: Steve Smith, Kevin Boss, Ahmad Bradshaw, Barry Coefield
