The group started as a simple place to archive my daily coverage of the 2008 Tour de France. Hastily assembled, the group served its purpose well... but it can be an even greater vehicle yet. As one of FanNation's most prolific writers in the field of obscure sports which are not traditionally part of the American fandom repertoire, it started to dawn on me that I had something of a duty. As a burgeoning member of the fourth estate, I owed it to myself to see if I could even manage to follow a sporting event and write about it daily. For most, this is a full-time job... the columnists at newspapers and magazines across the country, filing reports and articles day in and day out. For me, I have the additional burden of trying to manage this around a widely-variant schedule working my day job as a caterer...

Yet I managed quite well, I thought. There were only two stage summaries which came out a day late, mostly due to late and/or long hours at the University of Oregon cooking for someone other than myself. Until I can devote eight, ten, twelve hours a day to this craft, I'll sometimes be tardy on my deadlines -- but at least I'm setting deadlines, right?

With that in mind, Bigalke Presents soldiers onward as a depository for me to hone my skills in daily journalism. I always said I would be covering the big events here in the sports and tournaments that might not be as well known to American sports palates. While most every American knows what the Olympics are, there are often sports which get left by the wayside. Some I know about; some I don't. I'm willing to try to learn more and help you all do the same if you are willing to put in the legwork reading that I do writing...

So here's my guarantee: I'll have SOMETHING out here everyday about the Olympics, something that you might otherwise have neglected as baseball continues on, training camps open in the NFL, and college football draws nearer from distant horizons. I'd love to have anyone and everyone along for the ride -- love them or hate them, these Olympic Games will certainly be relevant from more than a mere sporting standpoint. So if you'd like to stay updated on the quadrennial spectacle that is the Olympic Games, feel free to join the group at its front page.

Welcome aboard... (and anyone who can name the book from which that modified line above hails gets a gold star...)

Damn you, Zach. You are stealing me idea. I even have a group that I made a few weeks back.

No gold star for me (pray do tell), but I'm looking forward to my daily fix of the writings of Bigalke. Good on you, Zach.

Looking forward to it, Bigalke.

But I swear, only you can write 5 paragraphs about what you're going to write about next.
