As the trade deadline approaches, I have just gotten word that the Reds have asked Ken Griffey Jr. is he would agree to a feal that would send him to the White Sox.

The other details of the deal aren't known, but pending Jr.'s approval, he would be sent to the ChiSox in a tentative deal between the ballclubs.

On the Reds' part, I think this is a great deal, as they begin to get out of the rebuilding phase, and into playing competitive baseball in perhaps just a few years. They have great prospects such as Joey Votto, Jay Bruce and Johnny Cueto. They also have an ace in Edinson Volquez, and are poised to drop all their older players.

This would be the first, of what I think would be many deals involving their older players. Jr. is hitting .245 with 15 homers this season. Not exactly the Jr. of old, but definitely an asset to any team. He may not be as spectacular defensively, but I think he can hold his own.

The ChiSox are definitely making this move to try and help them put some space between themselves and the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central.

If Griffey approves, this will just add more to the drama in the playoff races in the AL. I doubt this will put pressure on the Twins to make a move, though.

Teams are wheeling and dealing before today's trade deadline, and we'll see if any more trades are made today.

Stick with MLB Spot as I will report any significant trades that occur today.

It will be good for Jr. to get out of Cincinatti after his sign he made at their announcer Saturday and plus the prospects the Reds have in store that isn't a bad trade.

Griffey has agreed to the move

I love this trade the Sox possibly can get Griffey with a chip on his shoulder for the playoffs since he hasn't been in 11 yearsand only for Masset and Richar that is definitely a steal. Great move again Kenny.
