When I think of NASCAR I think back to the days of the Intimidator.
He was the most competitive driver ever, yet he was so consistent, his talent is still yet to be paralled, and go ahead and say Richard Petty, but as far as I'm conserned Dale Earnhardt Sr is the greatest NASCAR driver of all time.
To me Earnhardt's death is the biggest tragedy in sports history, I mean the most popular driver ever, and the face of the sport was wiped out that dim February day in 2001, and to me the sport has went down hill since then.
Sure the Chase format is better, but the racing is not, there is no big rivalry of fans anymore like the Earnhardt vs. Gordon, and I don't see another one of that magnitude will ever occur again.
Sorry if you disagree, but I think NASCAR is not as great as it was pre 2001, and I don't see it getting any better.

Yes, there was definitely a rivalry with the fans of Earnhardt and Gordon.

NASCAR = Rules, Rules, and more Rules, same cars, same horsepower, no breathing room. NASCAR changed forever in 2001....sad.

I prefer F-1 (and Indy) over Nascar myself. Although each format has it's appeal.
F-1 has the more interesting track designs (obviously) and the higher speeds...but Nascar has the raw agressiveness advantage.
