How did you make your team? | The Batting Cages

I am very, very bored so I decided to make a blog where I tell everyone how I built my MLB 08 team. A few people did this before. I started out with the Tampa Bay Rays

Traded Jonny Gomes to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Juan Pierre. I always liked Pierre's speed in real life and he comes cheap in MLB The Show. I added him to my other outfielders who were B.J. Upton, Rocco Baldeli, Carl Crawford and Dustin Mhor.

Created Evan Longoria. Call this cheating but he's a player in real life so whatever.

About 35 games past, I won 23 of them. Rocco Baldeli was hitting under .200 so I traded him and a prospect to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ryan Ludwick (who ended up with 47 home runs at the end of the season, I wasn't making him good or anything).

I had an open roster spot so I decided to put some more umph into my bullpen and added RP Jorge Julio from free agency.

At the trade deadline, I traded a prospect for Franklin Guttierez since my DH job was still up for grabs.

I was up by about five games at the All-Star Break over the New York Yankees in the division race but then I did terrible for the rest of the year and finished at 88-74 and did not make the playoffs.

I signed everyone in the off-season except some of my aging minor leagers amd Carlos Pena and during free agency signing, I signed Josh Hamilton, Joey Votto, Daric Barton, DeMaso Marte, Jose Rivas, Troy (?) Torrebela. I also traded Juan Salas and Akinori Iwamura to the Detroit Tigers for Joel Zumaya. I also signed closer Tony Pena since Troy Percival retired.

What happened with your MLB teams?

This is actually a pretty good idea. I'm thinking about doing this for Madden 09 and NCAA 09.

I was the Detroit Tigers of course and the only moves I made were Yorman Bazardo to the O's for Radhames Liz and Brandon Inge to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp. I also signed Freddy Garcia out of free agency. My team finished with something like 115 wins and won the World Series.

During the off-season, Todd Jones retired so I signed Akinor Otsuka. I also signed Dan Haren, Matt Holliday and Manny Ramirez including some other good prospects. I signed all of my players other than Edgar Renteria.

I always creat my kids in the game, so I have an 'ace' pitcher, solid outfielder, and quality catcher. I like to creat Mark 'The Bid' Fidrych, too. Hey-it's my game, I can do what I want, right? Only trouble is playing in Comerica, even in a game, it's hard to build up HR stats.

I had the Texas Rangers and I forgot how I made my trades and signings but I got rid of Hank Blalock, Vincente Padilla, Kevin Millwood and Jason Jennings and ended up with Alex Rodriguez, Freddy Garcia, Jon Lieber and Daniel Cabrera
