Can claim to be basketball fans and think Boston is NOT a contender in the East where the Cavs and LeBron showed just how easy it is to get to the NBA Finals from the Eastern Conference.

Garnett, Allen and Pierce are the best trio in basketball, easily surpassing Arenas, Butler and Jamison, not to mention Kidd, Carter and Jefferson. The Wizards are inconsistent and the C's now boast 3 team first players. The Nets big 3 is closer to the Celts than the Wizards are but even they cant match up with Garnett, Allen and Pierce.

The common argument is that all 3 cannot do together what they did on their LAST team. The bottom line is they wont have to since they will be playing together.

Over his career Garnett has averaged only 16.6 shots per game, Pierce 17.6, and Allen  16.8. For sake of argument let's just say Allen and Pierce average what they have over their career. That is a total of 50 shots a game and the NBA average is around 80 per contest in a 48 minute game. That leaves 30 shots for Rondo, Perkins (not an offensive threat, strictly a rebounder and defender), House, Tony Allen and possibly Reggie Miller and/or Allen Houston.

Allen will have his best year since the defense will not be able to double on him and leave Garnett and Pierce open. Hitting the trey will be a thing of beauty.

Pierce is a penetrator who will slash to the basket and draw easy fouls and kick it out to Allen or Garnett if defense's collapse on him.

Garnett will provide great passing from the high post and a cornucopia of low post options. His 15-18 foot jumpers rival Malone and if he develops a good chemistry with Rondo, Allen or Pierce, the pick and roll will rival Stockton to Malone.

This trio can easily be potent for 5 years since Garnett keeps himself in great condition like Malone did. Allen has had injury problems in 5 of 12 seasons but Pierce has been relatively injury free except for 2 of 9 years, 1 of those being when he got stabbed.

The bottom line is Boston just made themselves relevant again.

N for those that think I am a Boston fan, WRONG....Die hard Lakers fan but I love basketball and respect what Ainge just pulled off.

A trip to the Eastern Conference Finals and possibly in 08-09, a trip to NBA Finals.

they are contenders, but I still doubt they will win.

Good point, they could pull it off in the east, but not the West.
I am glad to know that there is someone out there that can say nice things about other teams. I appreciate every team in the league, even though my favorite is the Pacers. Too many people out there can't say that.

Can't wait to see him play! I like to route for the "good guys" The pacers used to be just that. Not anymore. I hope this year is better even if it is a losing season. We can work on that.
