What you say is true but also admit to yourself that had this not been a famous african american athlete(who made millions) the media would not have been interested in this story. They just had awhite guy here in SC who got busted for breeding pit bulls and staging dogfights in his back yard. How many people you think were outside the courthouse protesting with signs? Noone!! PETA only sent a letter expressing their anger but noone showed up. I don't condone Vicks actins but I also know that I am not God and who am I to judge? Let he who is w/o sin cast the first stone!! Noone on this earth can say they have never made a mistake. There are people on this thread who have probably done worse and will not admit it. The NFL is caving in under pressure and with 53 per cent of their ticket sales belonging to african americans you can expect to see plenty of empty seats this season. I love dogs(small house dogs) I have read about too many pit bulls killing people and innocent children so I CANNOT feel about them the way that everyone else does. They should be kept at a animal farm instead of mixing with people. This one incident where the pit bull killed a 2 year old boy he WASNT trained to fight!!! So PETA can stop all of that rhetoric about them being the lil darlings!! I don't really care what anyone thinks because money talks and BS walks!! So if Some NFL team out there thinks they can use VICK after he pays his dues to society , then they will pay whatever money to a PR camp and use him to make millions for their team. 1) The NFL will have no trouble filling the seats. Ever.
2) Even if they feel that Vick was treated unfairly due to race, PETA and the justice system would be to blame, not the league.

Also, the white guy in SC wasn't famous. Vick is getting different treatment because everyone knows who he is, not because he's black. Sure, it means he's being treated unfairly than that white guy, but that's the price of fame. If Dick Cheney were into dogfighting, it'd be blown up way bigger than Vick, because Cheney's more famous. Same with Peyton Manning, Jerry Springer, or Bruce Willis.

I am sick to death of people using the race card. Take the color of ones skin out of the equation and what he did and was involved in still equals a heinous act. I don't care what color his skin is. Vick deserves to be stripped of everything he has. This wasn't a mistake he made or poor judgement. This is a man with with serious sociopathic behavior and should be treated as such. what has race got to do with the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals? Every race has idiots who enjoy the cruelty of dog and**** fighting. What Vick supported was inexusable. Cruelly killing dogs who didn't perform up to his and his "friends" standards. Beating them, slamming them to the floor, electrocution, etc. Putting female dogs into a "rape" stand so male dogs could breed them. This man has no compassion and no moral fiber what so ever. He deliberately and remorselessly caused pain and anguish to these creatures. He should never be allowed to play professional football in this country again. The "apology"by Vick was written for him and all he did was mouth the words. This was not a little boy who didn't know better, this is a grown man. He knew it was wrong when he did it or he and his "crew" wouldn't have been hiding it and lying about it.

When shock jock Don Imis said a stupid thing even after an apology many high profile blacks felt he should lose his job ( Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton come to mind ) But now that a black athelete slams some dogs against a wall, drowns them or electrocutes them he deserves a second chance ... go figure. Micael Vick is human. He's not the untouchable sports icon that so many beleived he was, including himself. Right now Micael Vick is in a stage of remorse; however, it's one for getting caught, not for what he has done. Perhaps, that will come later. Only Michael Vick can fix Michael Vick. He can't change what he has done but perhaps he can and will change his heart. As so many others I am mad and have thought about what the appropriate punishment should be. I have thought the worst and have also considered even feeling bad for him and perhaps forgiving him quickly. All actions have consequences. Some way some how most people are able to make decisions that will not have dire consequences but we are all capable of making poor decisions. The fact of the matter is that Vick's action were evil. They (his actions) hurt and killed innocent animals. His actions deserve punishment and he will suffer from the long reaching consequences in a variety of ways. I have no doubt about that. I can't help to think that some good will come out of this. Maybe it takes a Vick like person to draw the proper attention something like this deserves. Perhaps, it will help put an end to the cruelty of animals, specifically dog fighting. Perhaps as Vick sits in jail to think about what he has done and suffers the agony of his own thoughts, animals around the country and even around the world may get better treatment. Perhaps, people will even stop looking at Pit Bulls as evil dogs, because they are not. It's people that are and can be evil. We have full domain over all animals on this planet. Perhaps we will take a more responsible stand against actions of this nature and magnitude. Should Vick play in the NFL again? Let's wait and see the Micahel Vick that comes out of jail... Perhaps that Micahel Vick will recognize his God given talent and not abuse his privledges that so many other wish they had. This whole thing is not about black or white. It's not about an NFL quaterback, it's about our society. It's about the direction we are headed in. When is enough, enough? I myself would not want to see Vick on the professional level ever again. I'm an NFL fan and there is no room for a Vick. Those that do wrong during their careers deserve to suffer consequences in their careers. As a fellow man, I wish him well. I honestly hope he recovers from the sickness he has. I hope he rights his wrongs to whatever degree possible. It's sad...

Truth be told, very eloquent. I myself have alot of rage and disgust for Vick, and his supporters, but you really hit the nail on the head.

There are many cases where I think race plays a role in how the media/public react to a story. No doubt this is a huge story because Vick is famous, while other cases might get some local media attention, but not play on a national stage. But to say that the coverage of this story has anything to do with Vick being African American is just silly. If it would have been Matt Leinart or Rex Grossman or Brett Favre or Eli Manning or any other white QB -- or while NFL star for that matter -- this still would have been a huge and horrifying story.

There is no doubt that we're not dealing on a level playing field in this country when it comes to race or gender, but there are times where crime is crime and it is terrible and horrifying regardless of the color of your skin.

Well Mike Vick supporter just wrapped it up didn't he? White people don't own pitt-bulls, white people want to prosecute killers of animals while not being bothered by killers of human beings walk the streets, and it's better for the dog to fight for his life than to be put down by a means many feel is quite peaceful. To support someone as incredibly fortunate as Mike Vick who's now proven that he's willing to risk everything he's worked so hard for to get whatever rush received from watching a dog fight is ridiculous. I don't agree that Vick is a sociapath as some have implied, nor is he a victim. He's not the least bit remorseful, and if he hadn't been dimed out by his so-called boys, he'd still be full of the same lies and deceipt he'd been until a month ago. For the record, I'm a white male and I grew up with pit-bulls that were all very sweet and gentle animals. Just as many people are trying to say Vick is a victim of where he grew up, so are the pit-bulls that are responsible for the horrible reputation these dogs suffer from. If brought up in a loving home without the slightest bit of abuse, they're no more prone to violence than any other dog.

I read your blg about MIchael Vick and I just want to say....YOU ROCK. I am from Atlanta and I have been through the ringer on this situation. We have heard it all. As of yesterday (09/11/07) he is still be talked about as a saint by the black community and how poorly the "white" city of Atlanta has turned their back on him. They are calling in to the radio stations and will not support the quarterback here now for the simple fact that he took Michael Vick's spot and he is white. He will never survive this on slaught of abuse. MIchael Vick is a inhumane human being in my opionion and when I heard his little spill about him "finding Jesus" and how sorry he was, I almost lost my lunch. It really does normally take going to prison before a criminal finds their savior but I guess Vick wanted to get a headstart.
