Living in Florida, maybe I missed the switch, but after seeing the results of the Devil Rays series this weekend, it appears that an evil force switched players on the two teams. The Devil Rays whose bullpen pitching is so bad you can never count any lead safe outpitches the Yankees pen. The Devil Rays hitters played more like the Yankees, putting up 12, 6 and 8 runs in the three games, how can this be?

Maybe the Red Sox left something in the water coolers in the home dugout to put the Yanks into a daze and added something extra to the Rays since they played more like the Red Sox than the Red Sox did in their three games.

What happen to Jason Giambi and Shelley Duncan, pinstripers who gave some energy and spark to the team, but yet nowhere to be seen over the weekend. I know Duncan is being squeezed by too many outfielders, but unless he is hurt (maybe I missede that) it would be nice to see him in RF some time since as good as Bobby Abreu has been since the break, he still plays the outfield like he is running with his wallet holding him down.

Giambi is a stiff at 1B, but he can hit and seemed to be warming up since his return from the DL.

This was a series where the Yankees could have taken a chance and put some players in the lineup who could match the aggressiveness that the Devil Rays bring to the field. Instead we saw a club that obviously could not sustain the intensity of the Red Sox series against a team they had no business losing 2 of 3 at home to. While the Yankees may make the playoffs as the Wild Card, a series like this doesn't give you much hope they could sustain the excellence necessary to advance in the playoffs to the World Series.

At least we have the Red Sox sweep to carry us until the Fenway series begins.
