Last weekend was a showcase for SEC football, with several great games on national TV and a few surprises.  The top two remain the same, as do the bottom five. But the middle of the pack is anybody's guess:

SEC Power Ratings
(Sept. 24)

1. LSU (Last week 1) beat South Carolina 28-16
Another solid win for the Tigers against what may be an SEC East contender. LSU gets an in-state scrimmage this week while awaiting the Gators. Next week: at Tulane

2. Florida (2) beat Ole Miss 30-24
A tougher-than-expected game for the Gators, but the outcome never really seemed in doubt. Tebow is now starting to get Heisman mentions, but is it too much, too soon for this young squad? Next week: vs. Auburn

3. Kentucky (6) beat Arkansas 42-29
Andre Woodson definitely deserves Heisman consideration for his play so far. The Wildcats will go as far as he can take them -- maybe even Atlanta for the SEC championship game? Next week: vs. Florida Atlantic

4. Georgia (7) beat Alabama 26-23 (OT)
Great effort by Matt Stafford to pull out a win the Bulldogs desperately needed in order to keep pace in the SEC East. Now they must avoid a letdown against a team that put a scare in the defending champs. Next week: vs Ole Miss

5. Alabama (3) lost to Georgia 26-23 (OT)
Saban Nation tried to will the Tide to victory, but instead must put off the "Bama is Back (and This Time We Mean It)" parade for at least another week. Next week: at Florida State

6. South Carolina (4) lost to LSU 28-16
Senior Blake Mitchell is out, and freshman Chris Smelley is in as Steve Spurrier shakes things up at quarterback. Nothing new for the Head Ball Coach, so don't be surprised if he puts Mitchell back in at some point this year. Next week: vs. Mississippi State

7. Arkansas (5) lost to Kentucky 42-29
The Darren McFadden Heisman campaign will lose serious momentum if the Razorbacks don't put a few wins together. Luckily they get a reprieve from SEC action for the next couple of weeks. Next week: vs. North Texas

8. Vanderbilt (8) did not play
Two weeks ago the Commodores beat Ole Miss much more convincingly than Florida did on Saturday. For some reason this does not vault them above the Gators in the ratings. Go figure. Next week: vs. Western Michigan

9. Tennessee (9) beat Arkansas State 48-27
The Vols scored at will against an outmatched patsy, but the defense continues to struggle.  But I guarantee they'll do better on Saturday. As a matter of fact, they may not be scored on at all. Next week: Bye

10. Mississippi State (10) beat Gardner-Webb 31-15
We should probably make sure Gardner-Webb is an actual school and not just a made up name put on the schedule to give the Bulldogs a free win. Nah, not worth the effort. Next week: at South Carolina

11. Auburn (11) beat New Mexico State 55-20
OK, we get it. All these lower-tier teams can beat up on the Sisters of the Poor. We are not impressed. But if the Tigers can knock off the Gators in The Swamp, that would get our attention. Next week: at Florida

12. Ole Miss (12) lost to Florida 30-24
Moral victories will sometimes get you a bump in the ratings, but with the teams ahead of them gorging on cupcakes, there's no room for the Rebels to move up. That would change with a win in Athens. Next week: at Georgia
