Hey everybody! I'm gonna say who is for real in the B10 so leave comments to get your opinion heard!

Illinois-Contender. They have a decent coach in Ron Zook, they're playing well by beating PSU, and they have great facilities, which will help recruiting.

Minnesota- Dee Dee Dee!

Indiana- Pretender. haven't beat anyone and they're still Indiana.

scUM (Michigan)- Pretender. Pulled a squeaker against Northwestern. Lost to Appy State, no D, only O is Hart.

Michigan State- Contender. Sure, I'm biased but we dominated ND, won a good game against Pitt, decent D, good RB's, barely lost to Wiscy on the road.

Iowa- Pretender. Lost to Iowa State & Indiana. 'Nuff said.

Wisconsin- Contender. They're good and 5-0 and ranked 9th.

Ohio State- Der!

Northwestern- Pretender. Lost to scUM, they're just bad.

Purdue- Pretender. Terrible D. Barely beat ND, won't make noise in Big 11.

Penn State- Pretender. Lost to Illinois and scUM. Terrible offense, overrated.

You're right on Iowa. So banged up now they are basically starting their 2nd and 3rd teams. May not win a game the rest of the way.
I think you are wrong on Penn St and Purdue.

Give me one good game by PSU or Purdue and I'll change it.

September 30, 2007  12:58 PM ET

Gotta go w/Ohio State until they lose. Wisconsin looks overrated and have marginal wins, just a matter of time b4 they lose to an unranked team.

I agree about MSU. They will give the rest of the Big Ten trouble. They are loaded with talent and are gradually buying into their new coaches philosophy. This could be a turning point for MSU and UM as the Spartans gain a stronghold on recruiting in the state. The Badgers narrow escape this weekend will no doubt draw very little praise (or respect) from the talking heads, but I think it was a significant win! On Wisconsin.

Lost a little credibility. PSU did not play Indiana, but I do agree that they are overrated as they usually are. Obviously you did not see the Purdue ND game. Purdue was beating ND 23-0 at halftime and never trailed. How can you say they barely beat ND. Did they let up a bit in the second half, yes. But that happens with a score like that. ND is bound to show some improvement from where they were the past few weeks. By the way Pitt is awful that should have been a blow out. Pitt has since got crushed by Uconn...yes they actually have a footbal team, and then by Virginia.

Sorry pvels, I meant to say Illinois, not Indiana.

September 30, 2007  11:53 PM ET

Spartytime...I understand bias...but please, the reasoning behind MSU being a contender is that you beat Pitt and dominated ND? Pitt is 2-3 (one of those losses is to that football powerhouse Connecticut) and I know high school teams that can dominate ND, without giving up any points, let alone 14.
And are we talking contenders/pretenders this season or in the long run? I'm not sure how recruiting will help Illinois this season.
Wisconsin is overated...unless you feel beating UNLV by 7, letting Citadel put up 31 points and a 4 point win over Iowa (who just lost to Indiana) is impressive. Just like RCPortland said, its just a matter of time. They travel to Illinois and Penn State in the next two weeks, wouldn't be surprised to see them drop one.

Spartytime08 in another blog about Wisconsin - "Wiscy isn't that good. We literally gave you the game and you still barely beat a Spartan team that's very mediocre. GO GREEN!"

...Make up your mind.

31-14 is domination, but 33-19 isn't? and giving up 14 pts to ND is worthy of "Decent D" but 19 is "Terrible D" ??? If you saw the game Purdue's D was actually very good most of the game, ND just made ridiculous catches. A loss at Wisconsin hardly warrants a contender status (where was your D in that one?).

October 1, 2007  05:04 PM ET

digger, Wiscy isn't that good. But sadly, neither is the rest of the Big Ten. I put the Illinois recruiting comment because it's another positive in the long run, I just thought that it should be included.
Bluewolf021, Did you see the MSU-ND game? One of the touchdowns was just because Hoyer fumbled it at the 9! The other was just one big play by an RB. Stopping Wiscy's 0 on the road isn't easy, but we were adequate. And in our ND game the score could have been much worse, but we eased up a ton in the 4th.

October 2, 2007  09:58 AM ET

So beating ND by 17=dominating, beating ND by 14=barely winning. Whatever. Spartytime08=No valid comments.

October 2, 2007  08:53 PM ET

VanSlyke- We completely let up in the 4th. We could have scored in the mid to high 40's if we tried. VanSlyke=No valid comments.

October 3, 2007  12:36 PM ET

Whatever helps you sleep at night. This year in the Big 10 the pretenders at this point are Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota and Indiana. Every other team has a shot.

October 3, 2007  02:58 PM ET

spartytime08, who is "we"? do you actually play on MSU? Third string waterboy?

October 4, 2007  04:49 PM ET

It's easier than typing "Spartans" or "Michigan State". That's why, VanSlyke.

MSU a contender? They lost to the only good team they played, barely beat Pitt and Bowling Green, and got TWO offensive TD's scored on them by Notre Lame.
