I have been a die hard NFL fan for years..., and I am still trying to wrap my head around the trade deadline..., does anyone really do anything on deadline day? Football's a totally different element than hockey, baseball, basketball? In those three sports, you see upwards of ten deals on D-day. In football? I can't honestly remember the last time someone got dealt? I am not saying get rid of deadline but, it seems that no GM really cares about the deadline to start with..., you're not gonig to see a trade until the offseason and even still, it'll be for draft picks. GM's don't really see their 'full team' until week five or six anyway, right? You got to watch a few games to see how the rookies are progressing and your vets are doing..., I just don't see why there's a deadline in football.

There shouldnt be. Its a copycat of the other sports, but its useless in the NFL. You cant bring a guy in and expect him to gell with a squad that has been together since mini-camp broke eons ago. The other sports are more specialty, so its easier to slide a key piece in. Not so in the NFL where each team has a playbook that is as thick as the guide you use when you are out of town and want to phone in an order for pizza.

Also theres only 16 games in NFL...the risk to trade a player is way greater oppose to MLB, NHL, or NBA when they have nearly a 100 plus for nba and then mlb have 100 plus games...its just not worth risking one or two players to perform within such a short time span

I don't understand the trade deadline in the NFL. Nice blog! :)

The deadline is to prevent a losing team to trade a player to a team that is making a playoff run solely for the purpose of helping the winning team in the playoffs. It's to discourage under the table deals. And I care.

And now we know the rest of the story... :)

But, how many times will a star receiver for a bad team go to a contender? They got to get used to a whole new coaching staff, a new QB? Sure it works sometimes but really..., it doesn't happen that often!

No you don't see it. Thus the need for the deadline.
