I must say that I was impressed last night with the performance of the Gators. Although the defense really couldn't stop UK, I was pleasantly suprised by the way the team kept their heads in the game for sixty minutes (for the most part.) I also like the way that Coach Meyer stuck with the young guys, even when they were getting scorched by Kentucky's receivers. Kentucky played an awesome game, and you cannot blame Andre Woodson for the loss of that game. The commentators were hammering him today about keeping the ball inbounds, and he should have, but I don't think that lost them the game. Bottom line, UK's offense just ran out of time. They were impressive, though.
Speaking of impressive, thank goodness Alabama came through for me yesterday and knocked Tennessee out of first place in the East. I was beginning to worry about having an offseason where my team beat a rival and left no doubt as to who may be better only to see the rival get a championship (e.g. Jacksonville the last two years.) I truly do not like Alabama (when I was in the Marines, I used to refer to Alabama as the University of North Florida @ Tuscaloosa [Alabama was originally a part of Spanish Florida in the early 1800s, although it became a state almost thirty years before Florida] when some of my Marine buddies would remind me of their dominance) but I find myself rooting for this young Gator team's chances at an East title, and UT had to lose for that to happen. We needed UT to lose because we would get a shot at everyone else in the East but them. Thank you, Alabama. I still don't like you.
Moving on, I truly ain't shocked that the Gamecocks lost to Vandy. Vanderbilt should have beaten the Bulldogs last week. I'm just suprised that they beat Carolina in Columbia. There are no easy games in the SEC East this year. No pushovers. The Vandy win was not the same as Stanford/S. California, either. Vanderbilt actually has a winning record. In fact, they are only one game under .500 in the conference. Vanderbilt's a good team, and I truly hope that we don't have to cheat them again like we did in '05 (remember when they got a phantom unsportsmanlike conduct penalty at the end of regulation in the Swamp?)
Finally, I'm glad that we no longer have to go out West. Although I still think that we may lose to Carolina this year (our defense still hasn't improved dramatically and Carolina's a good team,) I'm proud of how the Gators did this year against the SEC Western teams and I hope to see improvement next year.
See you next time,

I hope your thinking on the Carolina game is accurate, but either way, it should be another exciting game. And, after our loss to Vandy (knew they were going to uspset someone, shame it had to be us), it pretty much puts everyone in the SEC East in the position of needing to win out to make it to the championship game. It's gonna be a wild finish in the East! Good luck to the Gators this weekend. (there's no love lost between us Gamecock fans and UGA)

gamecockbuck,
I don't want to be right, but that's how I see it. We're not stopping teams on defense (run or pass), and I don't see us matching up well with McKinley. If our defense played better, I would be more confident. Thanks for supporting UF in our yearly Jacksonville visit, and I'll be watching the UF/USC from home in Beaufort, SC (some of my co-workers probably want me to go, but I don't want them to see me cry if they lose.)
