Baseball is widely known throughout the world as the "American pastime". Well is it? Now we look at various teams throughout the MLB. First, the Red Sox, who recently won the ALCS and went to the World Series. I see 1....2....3....4....5...7...9..., a total of 9 players not born in the U.S. With a payroll of over $55,000,000. That is a lot of zeroes. And that is only one of the 30 teams in the MLB. People are being recruited from all over the world. And not just in baseball either. If you look around, many of our basketball or football players being draftedare not from the U.S. What we consider American sports: football, baseball, and maybe basketball, are all turning international. Football really hasnt caught on yet, but it will. There are already talks of having the Super Bowl in Engalnd sometime. Not that this is bad though. These sports and teams have brought over some great players, which has increased the excitement of the game(s) greatly. Maybe not having a true American pastime isn't such a bad thing. One last thing. For the love of god, PLEASE COMMENT!

I think baseball was once called America's pastime because everyone followed the game and took an interest in the pennant races and playoffs. I don't think that's true anymore. NFL football and even NASCAR have a larger following.
For me I enjoy NFL more because any team can win. With baseball, I follow the KC Royals and I know that they are not going to win because they can never spend enough money to keep their good players. Jonny Damon, Carlos Beltran, both were Royals but left for the money. And I don't blame them. Is revenue sharing the answer? Salary cap? I don't know.

Title threw me for a minute; I thought it was something ELSE, but not to worry...
You do start to wonder, just what IS a American pastime any more.
(Sorry, my train of thought's shot to hell tonight.)
