The Word According To J. HOVA

So, here we are folks at 1 and 7. Well, as a Jet fan I must say that we have seen this before. Remember we were 1 and 15 not that long ago, and after this game with the Bills I think we are going to be 1 and 15 again. However, that's not my problem.

My problem is with Eric Mangini, the man that has been crowned Mangenius. A true Man Genius would find a way for his offense to score more than 3 points. A true Man Genius would know that this team has no speed at Wide Receiver, and an Offensive Line that could not punch its way out of a paper bag. A true Man Genius would have fought to keep a veteran like Pete Kendall who was a great mentor to D'Brickashaw Ferguson and Nick Mangold, and would have blocked like hell for our new addition Thomas Jones. And as much as it pains me to type this a true Man Genius would know that it's time to make the transition from Chad Pennington to Kellen Clemens. I do not want to blame Chad for the Jets struggles, but maybe just maybe it's time to see if Clemens can lead this offense, and lead this team to some victories.

As the Dennis Green tirade plays in my head "if you wanna crown them crown them" (I had to clean it up for the censors), I wonder if jumping the gun last season gave Jets fans false hope, Mangini a false sense of the security of his team and of his abilities (the man did a guest spot on The Sopranos for crying out loud coming off his 10 and 6 season), or are the Jets just a bad team coached by a mediocre man and run by a bumbling G.M. in Tannenbaum.

Share your thoughts, share the word, and let me know. What is it, was Mangini falsely crowned Mangenius?, Is this team just awful?, and How can it be fixed?

P.S.: I guess I was wrong when I kept stating to all those who posted Week 8 picks that the Jets were going to beat the Bills. Take this post as my public mea culpa.

Eric M. has nothing on Herm Edwards Period. i knew that as soon as they started calling him Mangenius.

October 28, 2007  11:22 PM ET

Herm is in first place right?

October 28, 2007  11:22 PM ET

Without a QB.

October 28, 2007  11:27 PM ET

Herm did say You Play To Win The Game. I gotta admit, I respected him for that tirade.

October 28, 2007  11:32 PM ET

EJ, that turned their season around. My favorite press conference ever! Herm was getting trashed by the media for not kicking a field goal and said they had not scored a td in weeks. Field goals do not win football games TD's do.

You play to win the game. A lot of people have made many jokes about that but I did not. The Jets won seven straight and made the playoffs!

October 28, 2007  11:42 PM ET

You play to win the game. I wish Herm would tell the Pats haters. Im sorry your team is doing bad Hova, I know it sucks and I feel your pain, even if I have my own reasons for disliking Mangini (I didnt even call him out of his name out of respect for you lol) and I really havent a clue what is wrong with this team, its a combination of things. Anyway, it has to get better and I admire the way you took your rose colored glasses off.

You touched on a few points, but the quarterback and wide receiver combination is so important. They can completly change the fortunes of a good team. Take a look at the Patroits. The only difference in last years team and this years team is Randy Moss. If the Mangenius is really legit, it's going to show very shortly.

Man, I had to wash my sorrows down after writing this one.

A lot of Heineken was drunk by me last night. A lot of Heineken.

I think its a hard head... stubborn... that 3-4 is going no where... we have a legit probowl mlb that cant do anything in that dfense... draft a speed pass rusher move harris to the outside and that defense will click...

as for the O -- the line just needs some time to gel...the recievers are great... and i am not involving myself in the qb controversy...its just a mess

Thanks guys. Thanks. I'm just having a hard time right now believing that one and 15 is not in our future. Well, maybe 2 and 14. Thank God for the Dolphins.
