Guess what? People are mad at Bill Belichick. Why? Well, let's just say he's made a few interesting decisions lately. Some say he's justified. Some say he's a jerk. Die Hard Steel says he's an evil genius...and he's doing it on purpose.

Die Hard Steel

He was a jerk long before this season!

Holy **** I acctually believed that blog.

October 29, 2007  08:28 PM ET

That was a GREAT article. Absolutely fascinating concept.

Belichick has always been an arogant a@@ well before now. I think he didn't do it on purpose but has the arogance to think he can do anything without a consequence. When questioned about cheatgate he said would wait until the League ruled. Then once the league ruled he wouldn't comment except to say only talking about his next opponet. Way to step-up and be a leader. Gut-less.

Now he ran playaction on 4th and 2 up by more than 5tds in the 4th quarter. I have no problem if they go for it and just do an offtackle run man to man. But this is bushleague. He threw all over the field in MIami but not really upset their bc Miami was scoring pts. Then the real clueless but hardly mentioned ploy was up 14 in Dallas with less than a minute left in the game. He could have had Brady take a knee and run out the clock. Instead they dropped back to pass for a needless TD just to run up the score. Does he think this is the BCS system and needs to impress pollsters.

What would Bill have said to reporters, fans, his team if Brady got blindsided and was injured because he didn't have his team take a knee and run out the final seconds. What if it was tipped and picked off for a TD so Dallas could kick an onside kick down only 7. Its about winning. He had that and jeopardized it and his skill players health.

What an arrogant idiot

Damn Cooz, GREAT blog.

FanNation, we have a mastermind on our hands.

Well win close or win big looks like patriot fans get their money's worth. The way the patriots were playing they could have pulled them at half time and still won easily. I enjoyed getting to watch the best in the game on the field longer. I typically enjoy competitive games more, but watching Brady and that offense play is entertaining. Why are fans complaining? Don't you want to watch the best play? Isn't that why people say the NFL is better than college?

October 29, 2007  08:54 PM ET

Brilliant research, Larry. Did you know that on 10-29-07 I didn't care at all about the Dolphins beating the red out of the Patriots in 1972?

Very good point, Just A Fan, you're definitely right about that. Unlike certain Patriots fanatics on this site (read: Larry), I won't blindly support something. I am not taking a particular stance on this, I just wanted to present an angle of all of this that I haven't read yet.

I still just can't really get over how blatant he made the whole videotaping thing. Putting oneself into a guaranteed losing situation doesn't seem in line with such an intelligent thinker. It just seems like he's gotten far more out of getting caught than he had to pay for it.

October 29, 2007  09:05 PM ET

If people don't like the Patriots scoring bunches of points, then maybe they should play better defense. What do they want them to do, take a knee with 9 minutes to go in the game?

Garbage time exists in basketball, just the same. It gives the backups a chance to get in some game action, i.e. Brady's backup. This game was a great chance for him to get some game action throwing the ball.

And this is coming from a non-Patriots fan.

October 29, 2007  09:09 PM ET

That couls be true. just saying it could be, if your around coaches long enough you know they play head games, especially someone of Parcell's ilk...to the point of it, what would happen if Brady had gotten hurt doing that? Or Moss? Or Welker? What's the deal with Welker spiking the ball like he won the SB when they were already up 4 TD's? Joe Gibbs and his response is class Billy Boy and his actions are @ $ $. I wouldn't have minded losing, I wouldn't have minded losing 38-0, we all know they are good, but the 4th down going for it is unessacary ...Injuries do happen

October 29, 2007  09:19 PM ET

Sundevil, I think more people have a problem with the fact the Patriots went for it on 4th and 2 with Brady under center, not Cassel, the backup.

It's a gray area, but it's the same gray area that an opponent of theirs is going to test by going at Brady's legs if he runs in open space in that kind of situation. I'm sure Patriots fans won't be as accepting for unspoken rules violations when they hear "Hey, if he doesn't want his knees capped, then he shouldn't run when he's up 38 points in the fourth quarter."

And if a frog doesn't want to bump his bu.t.t. everytime he jumps maybe he should grow wings.

October 29, 2007  10:12 PM ET

Or maybe the Pats shouldn't be going for it from the shotgun on 4th down with Brady still in the game up 45-7. Just a thought.....

October 29, 2007  10:15 PM ET

Actually, i don't care if Bellichik (sp?) runs it up or not. Is it classless? Yes. Unsportsmanlike? Yes. But even more than that. It's stupid. One of the starters is going to get hurt. Maybe even Brady. Someone is going to take a cheap shot at him eventually. I respect Brady, but if he gets hurt when they are up 40 pts and running it up, I won't shed a tear.

October 30, 2007  01:20 AM ET

whoa...1Hawkeye1..classless, unsportsmanlike....stupid? i dont think so, its football...the point of the game is to score points and win....s t u p i d. -oh yea, have a nice day. btw, we are talking about football right? not flag football...these are adults here right? ok..just making sure.

October 30, 2007  06:23 AM ET

Carmen, if the purpose of the game is to score points, kicking a field goal gives them points, right? Please direct me to ONE situation in NFL history where a coach went for it on 4th and 2 from that close when he had an 8+ point lead. Ten times out of 10, he's kicking it.

Yet another aspect of this people seem to be overlooking...And amazingly enough, Carmen, those adults get injured fairly often BECAUSE they aren't playing flag football.

Ya know, maybe this is why I'm leaning toward thinking it was a cheap move...no one defending Belichick can come up with a plausible reason to justify what he's doing. Fanatics are so easily led...

October 30, 2007  09:28 AM ET

There is a good article on Fox Sports website this morning from the great sportswriter John Czarnecki in which he asks Howie Long what he thinks about people saying the Pat's are running up the score on teams.Long's response was "The Redskin's shouldn't have been running their mouths about how New England has never seen defensive backs like theirs and that they wouldn't get blown out like the other teams"."Keep your mouth shut and maybe you will get their respect ,it sounds logical to me". I agree with Howie, you have T.O. saying he will be available for the media right after the game, like he is already the M.V.P. of the game or something, teams don't like to hear trash talk and post these comments on the locker room wall.It is not wise to to make a fool out of someone when they are most likely going to retaliate and make a fool out of you.

October 30, 2007  12:04 PM ET

This is fantastic! Larry, Carmen, I want you to know It's your mentality that inspired this column. You're proving my point perfectly. You are so completely against any suggestion your team might be in the wrong, you will spend five hours a night on sites like FanNation trying to prove your side. That's exactly what Belichick has gotten his team to do, and that's how they're capable of even being in the position of being accused of running up the score.

You're brainwashed to assume that Bill Belichick is basically God, and you will do everything in your power to defend him - regardless of whether or not his actions are defensible. That's how a great coach wins Super Bowls.

You guys don't read anything other than what you want to think. It's that simple. You WANT to be doubted, you WANT to be hated. It's your massive Boston inferiority complex. Because you guys haven't won squat before the last six-plus years, you have no idea that this is the price you pay for being on top. Deal with it.

October 30, 2007  12:11 PM ET

You would have to be blind not to see that cheater is doing this as payback for being EXPOSED as a fraud for his videogate. He thinks by running up the score it shows the Pats are beyond legit w/o tape. Well I think the Pats havent played a defense worth a damn yet, but that changes this week. Colts win by 3 and a late Vinater-i!

October 30, 2007  12:22 PM ET

FROM LARRY: "Cooz why do you think anyone on Fanantion needs to defend Coach B's actions to you or anybody else for anything?"

Tell me that's not a scary thing to read...look at his/her words carefully...so "Coach B" doesn't need to justify his actions to anyone. He can do whatever he wants, as long as he wins. There is no higher price to pay for anything.

"Coach Joe Gibbs, saw nothing wrong with the Pats play either. Why, then should anyone bother to defend that which is not wrong?"

I dunno, Larry, you're the one saying it isn't wrong, yet, defending it as if your life depended on it. And the last time I checked, Joe Gibbs is not the foremost authority on what is right and what is wrong. He's got absolutely nothing to gain by saying Belichick ran up the score.

Whereas..."amateur" critics like myself are not professionally influenced one way or the other. My job does not center around Pittsburgh winning or losing. In a game that means nothing to them, I am providing objective analysis from both perspectives.

You are embarrasing yours. There are reasonable Patriots fans who still don't feel there was any wrong-doing. I'd rather listen to them, so go take your spelling mistakes and bother someone else. Get to steppin'...
