I feel like so much happened this weekend that I'm still sorting it all out, and there's so much to talk about that I don't know where to begin. So I'm throwing it all out there.
I CANNOT CATCH A BREAK. Texas just keeps winning, and it bothers me. It would've almost made my year if Nebraska had won two weeks ago. It would've been almost as good if Ok. State had pulled it off. Hey, any day Texas loses is a good day in my book. Too bad they won't lose. I was really really really excited everytime the score flashed across the bottom of the screen, you know, until there were 30 seconds left in the game and the Cowboys called it a day. The Longhorns are like cockroaches; nuclear winter could come and go and they'd still be here. My fingers are crossed that Texas Tech and Big G Harrell will bring the big guns this Saturday, because I think the Longhorns need another ‘L.'
Texas might keep winning, but Notre Dame just keeps losing. Lots of crisp white uniform caps off to Navy. And to Lou Holtz, whose pep talk was actually inspirational. Too often, those little pep talks don't work, but Saturday's really worked for me. The Fighting Irish, however, are going to need more than a motivational speech to turn things around. Currently, Charlie Weis hasn't decided if Evan Sharpley or Jimmy Clausen will start. If we're judging strictly on looks, I vote Clausen. If we're judging by how hot the QB looks in the uni, I vote Sharpley. ...But does it really matter? Obviously neither one has made much difference this season. They could draw names out of a hat, or hold open auditions for any player (heck, for ANYONE) who has QB experience or you know, who just thinks it would be cool to be a D-I baller for a day. Couldn't make things too much worse. Or hey, they could just borrow whichever talented Virginia Tech quarterback - Sean Glennon or Tyrod Taylor - doesn't get the start on Saturday.
Notre Dame + Nebraska = the two contenders for SI.com's poll about most unfortunate fans. I really just don't understand how Nebraska is so awful. Last year they were 9-5 overall, 8-2 in conference. Not bad. Now I get that they lost some players from the roster, including last year's Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in QB Zac Taylor. And Sam Keller hasn't exactly picked up where Taylor left off, or even where Keller left off two seasons ago, but it's the defense (with five returning starters and 16 letterwinners on the depth chart) that just gave up 76 points. I was watching a different game and I heard the commentators say "Kansas could score 100 points on Nebraska." I didn't realize they actually meant it. On the plus side, I adore the Huskers logo that looks like it's written in Quiksilver font. It's fresh and dynamic and youthful...kind of the opposite of the way the team looks right now.
Thumbs Up for a USC win, Virginia squeaking by again, Chris Long just cuz I love him, Ohio State beating Wisconsin, Oklahoma beating Texas A&M and of course, in the game of the week for me since USC wasn't televised, LSU beating Bama.
Thumbs down for Texas winning, Maryland losing, and USC not being on tv in my area.
NFL Bonus
I wasn't too busy watching "Making the Team 2: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders" to watch the "classic" game between the Patriots or the Colts. Ok, yes I was. I didn't even know who won (the Patriots, as I predicted) until the next day. Funny how the football-loving girl chooses to watch scantily-clad women work out while the men are riveted by sweaty men in tight pants. I planned to watch Monday night's game, but it was a little too painful. It's always hard for me to pay attention to NFL for whatever reason (even though I can sit on the couch for 14 hours watching college games) and I couldn't see much point in watching the Ravens get absolutely crushed. I was glad I was watching in a sports bar with a pretty indifferent crowd; it was much easier to pretend it wasn't happening than it would've been at home around a few diehard Bmore fans.

Not sure I have quite the hatred of Texas as you do, but its downright bizarre that they keep winning. Hats off to them, a win is a win, but they get my vote for most overated team in the top 15 (except for Hawii.....won't go there right now).
As far as Nebraska, their offense is still fairly impressive. Its the D that's killing them. Gotta get a better system and recruit some guys for it. Callahan isn't my favorite coach, but he's getting alot of heat for a bad season especially when the Big12 North is so strong this year.
Don't feel too sorry for ND though.....they still have one of the best recruiting classes this year. Weiss might be a bad collegiate coach, but he's one heck of a recruiter. They'll get better....possibly.
Can agree with the scantily-clad women working out, but as far as being a USC.......no support here.
Atleast on a good note, Tech will take Texas this week.
