I've seen a few of these around, and decided to do my own. Feel free to leave comments. Oh, and I'll update this tomorrow with more detailed reasons for each pick LOL, jk
- St. Louis Rams- Jake Long. Has a team ever needed an offensive lineman so badly?
- Miami Dolphins- Chris Long. 28th in sacks. 31st against the run. Dead last in scoring defense. Those are the Dolphin defense's numbers this year. So don't blame the offense! Long would help every single category immensely.
- New York Jets- Glenn Dorsey. An abysmal Jets defense has been playing with an undersized nose tackle. Now they'll have an undersized nose tackle with a lot of energy.
- Atlanta Falcons- Brian Brohm. I really don't think Brohm is the best QB in the draft. However, the Falcons need a QB, and their coach recruited and coached Brohm for 3 years. DRAFTED!
- Oakland Raiders- Sedrick Ellis. Remember when we thought maybe they were turning things around? They weren't. The defense is abysmal. Ellis is a large, high energy defensive tackle who will shut down the run, and pressure the QB.
- Cincinatti Bengals- James Laurinaitis- Remember when this team was good? Neither do I. I like James's instincts and speed. He is also a terriffic tackler. He narrowly beats out Conner for this spot on the Bengals' roster, for one reason: OSU will play in the title game, and Laurinaitis will be all over the field.
- New England Patriots- Dan Conner- Yeah they got Joe Staley out of it, but MAN the 49ers have gotta be pissed right now, eh? Anyway, the Pats have virtually no needs at all. Likely, they will trade out of this slot. But for the sake of ease, let’s say they stay put. They have only one need that will become pressing over the next 3 years or so, and that is youth, especially at inside linebacker. It is likely that by the end of the 2009 season, Seau, Vrabel, and Bruschi could all be gone. Who better to replace them than Dan Conner? To those who call him a Pozluzny clone, he ain’t. He has better tackling skills and instincts.
- Broncos- Kenny Philips- SOOOO frustrating to see such a talented team go to waste, especially on defense. Part of it looks to be Champ Bailey playing injured, part of it looks to be the scheme. Part of it is on the safeties. RETIRE MR. LYNCH!!!!! Another possible pick here is left tackle Sam Baker, to replace an aging O-line that has really struggled at times.
- Eagles- Andre Woodson... Just kidding! But how fuggin' funny would that be? Anyways, they'll take... SAM BAKER!!!! Sorry Eagles ans, but that guy you took in the second round a year ago... what was his name? Winston Justice? Oh yeah. I don't think he is a very good left tackle. Hopefully for you guys, the Eagles agree.
- Bears- Andre Woodson- this Bears team is so close... SO CLOSE!!!! If only they had an explosive QB to go along with them, this team could be good. unfortunately, by the time Woodson matures, you'll all be toast. Really, you could use DeSean Jackson here. Or an offensive lineman. Or maybe even a safety. Probably a running back as well. But as we've seen, so matter HOW good this team gets, they NEED a quarterback, one who can use Hester and Berrian's speed. Best to get a guy like Woodson now, and then rebuild the rest of the team later.
- Vikings- Matt Ryan- I wanted to give these guys a corner, but I think that Winfield is good, and MacCaluey and the other dude (just blanked on his name) are excellent up and comers. So I wanted to give them a safety, but Kenny Philips was all gone. So they get Ryan. Don’t get me wrong; I don’t think Ryan belongs this high in the draft. However, the Vikings NEED a quarterback, if only to keep defenses honest with Adrian Peterson. And unfortunately for the Vikings, the Bears and Falcons will both have worse records, and both need a QB badly enough that they won’t trade back with the Vikings. So the Vikes won’t get one of the premier QBs in the draft, but they will get something good.
- Arizona Cardinals- Derrick Harvey- The Cardinals, at this point, just have to figure it out. They are middle of the pack on both defense and offense, and they have three options here: cornerback, pass rusher, or offensive lineman. I thought strongly about giving them Sam Baker, or maybe Aqib Talib. But eventually I decided that the best thing they can do right now is get a pass rusher, and Harvey is just the man for the job. At just a tad under 250, he is too light to play defensive end every down in a 4-3. Perfect, because the Cardinals are starting to run a 3-4, with some 4-3 mixed in. Somewhere between Kamerion Wimbley and DeMarcus Ware, Harvey has the potential to be a great 3-4 OLB. He is also a demon with his hand on the ground during a nickel 4 man line situation.
- Texans- Darren McFadden- This team is close. Very close. After a quick start, they’ve really slowed down. However, they are just a few players away. Two things they need: Speed on offense, and offensive linemen. I was gonna give them Sam Baker. Then I said, “NO!!!! DeSean Jackson!” Then I realized McFadden was still on the board. Does this pick really need any explaining?
- Carolina Panthers- DeSean Jackson- If the Panthers pick, and DeSean Jackson is on the board, and the Panthers do not select him, I hereby grant Steve Smith the right to demand a trade. There are a lot of things plaguing this offense. Part of it is a lack of a good QB. Part of it is a lack of good targets after the outstanding Smith. Part of it is that opponents know if they double or triple Smith, they will be facing a bad QB throwing to bad receivers. The best way to combat this? Raw speed. I think DeSean is a more explosive, more durable Ted Ginn who is a better receiver as well. DeSean is a great player. So many problems would be solved for this team by simply adding Jackson, it is scary. A defense could no longer tie down Smith and then relax. The speed the Panthers would put on the field with DeAngelo Williams (running back), Steve Smith and Jackson…. Three sub 4.4 guys… WOW! Anything else need saying? Didn’t think so.
- Kansas City Chiefs- Ryan Clady- Well, these guys have way too many needs to count, and yet they are still a decent team. They need a quarterback.. Too bad all the really good ones are gone. They need a corner. But this is a deep class, and they can find someone in round 2. What they really need is a new left tackle to replace Willie Roaf, one of the all-time greats. This line is really slipping, and lets face it, left tackle Damion McIntosh is only starting because no one else could be found. You never want anyone on your O-line who can be described that way, but especially so at left tackle. The quite-large Ryan Clady will be a superb blocker for whoever is dropping back in KC, and he can couple with monster guard Brian Waters to start re-opening the highways for Larry Johnson.
- Baltimore Ravens- Malcom Jenkins- I see a situation here like last year, when Leon Hall, expected to be the first CB taken, was unseated by Darelle Revis. I think Jenkins unseats Talib as the first taken, though Talib will have a better career. Anyway. The Baltimore duo is getting up there. All- Pro Chris McAlister is still fabulous at times, but he’s lost a step and will be a necessary replacement in about 3 years. On the other side, Samari Rolle has lost a step or twelve. The undersized corner has struggled with tackling, staying with receivers, and general cornerback duties. He needs to be replaced ASAP. Throw in the fact that neither of Baltimore’s backup corners is worth anything (as we recently saw), and the need for a corner arises. For those who think they need a quarterback, I have an answer. First, remember they have Troy Smith. Second, they can hold out hope that a guy like Ainge or Henne falls to them in round 3 or 4, and take one of them. Not in rounds 1 or 2 I say!
- Buffalo Bills- Calais Campbell- Defense is the name of the game over in Buffalo. And Calais is the name of the man who can bring it. Incredibly undersized Aaron Schobel has been playing poorly, but he isn’t in need of replacement. It is his partner, Chris Kelsay, who needs replacing. The undersized Kelsay is merely adequate, and undersized as well. Having two undersized ends only works if both are monster pass rushers (see: Indy), and Kelsay sort of busts that mold. Throw in that he plays next to an undersized tackle, and you have a very weak Buffalo defensive line. Adding Calais would be awesome for these guys. Not only would he add much-needed bulk, but a needed pass rusher to help take pressure off of Schobel. Plus, that takes pressure off of a young secondary, always a good thing.
- San Diego Chargers- Aqib Talib- Incredible, isn’t it? Who would have thought that all four of the AFC West teams would be picking before the 20th overall selection. Crazy world we live in… ANYWAYS… One thing that has really hurt this team (aside from abysmal coaching) is the defense, especially the secondary. The secondary is not horrendous, but throw in average coverage, plus an inability to allow time to let the blitz reach the quarterback, and finally sprinkle in some poor tackling, and you have a recipe for disaster. Aqib Talib brings a lockdown element to the secondary. If you read this week’s Sports Illustrated, you know that. If you’ve seen him play the last two years, you know that even better. Talib isn’t an all star tackling machine, but he is decent. Plus, he can hold his man more than long enough to allow the blitz time, and he is a leader and multi-threat. All one could ask for.
- Seattle Seahawks- Jonathon Stewart- The Hawks are a confusing team. In terms of yards allowed, they appear to be average on both sides of the ball. However, flip to points, and you see the defense has been quite good, in fact. But on offense, they are once again average. The reason for that is the product of a few things. QB play has been shaky, but decent. Nothing to draft in round 1 over. The offensive line has had its some struggles. But I attribute that to youth; they are very young across the line, with the exception of geezer Chris Gray at right guard and 33 year old All Pro left tackle Walter Jones. However, they have promising young backups across the board, except at left tackle. Again, nothing to fret over. The only are of major trouble? Running back. Former Pro Bowler and NFL MVP Shaun Alexander is now enduring his second straight year of struggles. If he were 28, I’d blow it off. But he has never been a workhorse back, IMO, and he is in his 30s. His era is over. And in comes Stewart, the incredibly talented back from Oregon. Blessed with great speed to go along with a medium height, yet heavy, frame, he will be great for years to come.
- New Orleans Saints- Antoine Cason- The offense struggled at first, as did the whole team, but it is clicking once again. As long as these guys can stay on track, they really don’t need a whole lot of help. It is the defense that is vulnerable, especially the corners. Antoine Cason brings sorely needed help. A very similar player to Antoine Winfield, Cason loves the physical aspect of the game. He can shut down a receiver with the best of them, although his lack of top end speed causes some light crisping occasionally, and he can play the run with the ferocity of a guy like Winfield, Bailey, or Newman. Always there trying to make a big play, Cason will provide excellent skills and the aggressive defensive leadership the Saints seem to lack.
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- Adarius Bowman- The defense has been fabulous, and for such a young one, they’re only getting better. The offense looks weak-ish statistically, but that is because of running back injuries. I think the next step for this offense is to get a receiver, because aside from the age-less wonder known as Joey Galloway, none of these guys are very big threats. And who better to help than Bowman. Trivia question: Which NFL wide receiver was also born in Chattanooga, Tennessee (Bowman’s home town), and bears an incredible resemblance in size, speed, and power? If you said Plaxico Burress, you’re wrong! The answer is actually Terrell Owens. Both share the same hometown. Both are virtually the exact same size. Both have good speed for men their size, and both play with power. Bowman= future star.
- Dallas Cowboys (via Cleveland)- Mike Hart- The Cowboys have three options here- cornerback, wide receiver, and running back. With the big 3 corners off the board, and a deep class after them with the likes of guys like Mike Jenkins who should be available for the Cowboys’ next pick, the Cowboys will likely pass here. There is also a fabulous receiver class ripe for pickings. However, the Cowboys are high on Crayton and Hurd, their pair of young receivers. They’ll hold off until their next pick or until their second rounder. However, they won’t pass on Mike Hart. It would appear on paper that Steve Slaton’s speed would be a better match for Marion Barber’s barbaricness (is that a word? LOL) However, Slaton has been slowed down recently, and there are questions as to whether his success comes partly from his system. I think the Cowboys would pass, unless he had great workouts. But if he had great workouts, a team would likely take him much higher. So I give the nod to Hart, a superb runner and workhorse back with many similarities to Emmitt Smith.
- Washington Redskins- Gosder Cherilus- The Skins need to re stock their offensive line. Not only is it aging, but it has also been hit hard by injuries, and free agency. Cherilus will take some development, but he has a massive frame and quick feet. He’ll help down the road in a division featuring DeMarcus Ware, Trent Cole, and Osi Umenyiora.
- Tennessee Titans- Mario Manningham- Manningham came into the year looking like a top 15 lock. Then he dropped off the earth along with Michigan. But along with Michigan, he has come roaring back. The junior is almost definitely going to declare, and no team could use his incredible speed and knack for getting open more than the Titans, who are running on fumes with VY having no targets.
- Detroit Lions- Eric Young- Likely a bit of a reach here… well, actually, quite a bit of a reach, but the Lions need him. Aside from Ryan Clady, he is the next best O-lineman in the draft. And since Clady is an underclassman, and I have already used so many, I left him off. Really, the Lions need some help on defense, especially in the secondary, and ESPECIALLY along the offensive line. A line this bad will be feasted on come playoff time. Young can play guard and tackle, making him a commodity, and he has pretty good size to go along with excellent speed.
- Jacksonville Jaguars- Shawn Crable- the Jaguars defense ahs been a major disappointment, for a variety of reasons. One has been the bizarrely poor defensive end play. Another big reason is the inconsistent linebacker play. Well, the enormous linebacker from Michigan should help that. With the size of a tall middle linebacker plays on the outside, Crable has it all. He has great instinct, strength, and speed to stop the run, as well as good blitzing instinct, as shown by his outstanding 22.5 tackles for loss. Teaming up with Mike Peterson would be very good, and would make Crable seem even more talented than he already is.
- New York Giants- Reggie Smith- Looking at this team, there is surprisingly little need. The O-line could maybe use a bit of patching up, as could the secondary, but there really is nothing major. I give them pick to the secondary, the team’s weak link for sure. Specifically, at safety. What I like about Reggie is that he can play either safety or corner. And since the Giants are a tad iffy at both, he would be an excellent pick up.
- Pittsburgh Steelers- DeJuan Tribble- Word on the streets is that you can beat the Steelers on the outside, but it isn’t obvious because of the ferocious pass rush. I believe it. And even if it isn’t true, top cornerback DeShea Townsend is really getting up there. And since they have no pressing needs, and no short term future needs outside of left guard, why not take Tribble, a talented corner?
- Green Bay Packers- Steve Slaton- Easiest pick I’ve made all day.
- San Francisco 49ers (f/ Colts)- Limas Sweed- This guy is pretty dang good. Excellent size and leaping ability, he will bring some much needed presence to the lameass passing attack of the 49ers. Not the it could actually be considered an attack. More of a pathetic attempt at real football.
- Dallas Cowboys- Early Doucet- I wanted to give the Cowboys a corner here because trust me, as a Cowboys fan, I know better than anyone WE NEED IT!!!! But corner isn’t a pressing need. It can wait probably up to two years. Plus, any corner taken here would be a stretch pick. And with the Cowboys needing a WR fairly soon, why reach when such a badass playmaker is right here? LSU is just flat out BETTER when Doucet plays.
- Forfeited pick.
Dear lord... that took forever...

The Patriots will lose that high round pick due to the punishment from taping signals. They will only have the 30th or worse pick this year.

I was under the assumption they lose THEIR pick... aka the 32nd (assuming they win the SB). Since the 7th overall pick in this case technically belongs to the 49ers, they'd be allowed to keep it.

Both are superb tackles....
And I know that both picks are theirs. But they lose ONE pick... not BOTH. They lose their natural pick. That is still technically the 49ers pick, as it is associated with their win-loss record. It is just traded to the Pats.

ANYWAY, I'm not saying it isn't the natural selection, but I thought it was the team's highest pick...call up ESPN...
