Judging by the title of this you expect me to revel in the struggles of the Fighting Irish are having this season. Well, you would be wrong with a capital W. While watching Navy beat Notre Dame for the first time in my lifetime was exciting (It's been 43 years and I'm only 25 so to me that was history in the making) it's rough seeing such a storied program struggle the way it has. Out of 119 Division One programs it is safe to say that these Irish are in the bottom 10 with teams like Florida International. When you can put the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Florida International Golden Panthers in the same sentence you know that there are problems.
However, this happens. Legacies struggle every once and awhile and the blips in the win/loss column occur. A few seasons ago Tennessee was 5 and 6, Florida State and Miami are shadows of what they once were and the Cornhuskers have been approaching rock bottom for the past couple of seasons. It's just the cycle that is parity. In today's game recruits are overlooked by major programs and end up at either mid-majors or Division 1-AA schools. For example, I am a Michigan fan and I have to admit that Armanti Edwards (the Appalachian State QB) is a player that is worthy of starting at QB at more than half of the D1 programs. The same goes for most of their receivers....those guys just had speed.
Anyway, before I digress any further let me get to the point. The point is that for Notre Dame fans and supporters who are in distress and are calling for the head of Charlie Weis (or anyone's head for that matter) need to take a deep breath and step away from the ledge. These things happen. No one can stay on top for long. Just accept that this season is a loss, hope that the recruits that are coming in are capable of playing early and sit back and watch your team inch back to what it used to be.
Touchdown Jesus will be proud again, it just won't be this season.

Notre Dame will finish with no more than 2 wins. They'll probably beat Duke, but lose to Stanford and Air Force.

I think this was a good blog but your statement "No one can stay on top for long" i agree with but ND hasn't been on top since 1988. They may have been 2 years ago but after the "Bush-Push" it was all downhill from there.

Larry B makes a great point. I mean if the rumors are true, those were the reasons why Urban Meyer passed on the Notre Dame opening. Academics, and cold weather are a big detriment when you are recruiting a kid from Florida who loves the game, but doesn't love the classroom.

I think the ND loses to Air Force but beats Stanford and Duke. A three win season seems to be ahead.

I like Notre Dame, and I fully expected somewhat of a fall off this year. Weiss, though, has made some incredible errors this year (and the last two) that no other IA coach would have made. He's been a great recruiter, but a terrible coach and terrible judge of assistants. He needs to go.
