The Word According To J. HOVA

Last night the old lady in Little Havana said her goodbye. Unfortunately, her representatives could not send her out with a victory, or even a compelling game for that matter. After calling some members of my family who are University of Miami alumni and sharing our disgrace at what we saw, it hit me: What Happened to Da U?

Where was the swagger so popularized in the late 1980's by Michael Irvin and company? Shoot, I'll settle for the swagger of Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Willis McGahee, and Clinton Portis right about now. How could all of that just disappear so quickly? I understand that Randy Shannon (a former Hurricane player who played on those great late 80's squads) is trying to distant himself from Miami's less glamorous past but what so wrong with embracing the attitude? You can have an attitude and not be a criminal. You can want to punch someone without actually punching them. You can carry yourself as the baddest man on the planet, and be as gentle as a fly. That's the message he needs to preach. He needs to bring the attitude and the swagger back to the University of Miami without bringing the element.

Throughout last night's game the announcers kept reminding us that these Canes are young and talented and I kept thinking what's the point of being young and talented if you are afraid to be what you are? Basically, if you play with no confidence or attitude then what is the point? Talent's nice but where's the bravado and the machismo.

Unfortunately, these Canes are not a category 5 storm. They are just a tropical depression. May they find the air they need to boost their energies.

I gotta be honest, Hova: I expected a BETTER effort out of them. I mean, I'm a UVA fan and all, but...I can't explain it, either!!
You know, a close game would've suited me fine. I feel you, man; I really do. Kind of like when NE beat up on the Skins SO bad...you can understand MY pain now.
I shouldn't feel this bad about WINNING the game, but...I'm shaking my head, as I'm writing this.
I'm at a loss for words, my man; I truly am.

I would have had no problem with Virginia winning that game, but that effort was just disgusting.

Good blog. I like the line where you call the 'Canes a "tropical depression". Better give 'em some prozac.

The U will never be down for long cuz they can recruit well out there and are only a dynamic QB and a couple of D studs away. However, leaving the Big East for the ACC was a HUGE mistake by the U.

True that, Cass. I got to admit they were much better off in The Big East.
