The Brewers, as it stands, have only one free agent they need to focus on. The entire set of off-season moves that may or may not happen all rest on the question of their ability to sign Francisco Cordero. He was clearly their most productive reliever and doesn't appear to show any sign of fall out the way Dan Kolb and Derrick Turnbow did the last few years. Once the club finds out whether or not they can sign Coco will set up the rest of their moves.
IF they can sign him, they can focus all of their energy on their other glaring hole : Left Field. If they don't, the consulation prize could be the fact that they could spend that 45 million dollars elsewhere (Gagne, anyone?) and also have the extra 9 million that would have been allocated to recently departed franchise man, Geoff Jenkins. Now, I'm not suggesting that Eric Gagne could possibly fill in the closer's hole nearly as dominately as he once could (let alone as much as Coco did this past year), but he may be the Crew's best option. He'll likely only want a one year deal for around 8 million and did prove very successful as the Texas closer before being traded to Boston where he acted more like a double agent for the Yankees than the sparkling setup man to Jonathon Papelbon that Red Sox Nation was hoping for. Besides, not with Todd Jones off the market, the Brewers may not have much more of a choice.
