Right now it's all about waiting. NBA training camp is still a ways off, never mind the actual season. But just some new rumors, useless speculation, or hype would be better than this.
WRC, my other favorite thing to watch and imagine myslef actually doing at the level that makes it worth watching, is also quiet these days. They have a two-month break this summer and don't hit the roads in Germany for another week.
If you've never watched any rally car racing I would highly recommend you download some of these torrents and check it out. Great driving action, beautiful scenery, rabid fans. Nascar has nothing on these guys. They pilot compact 4-cylinder, four-wheel-drive cars on real roads at over 100mph. They drive on gravel, asphalt, even snow. Soon they'll be back in action and I'll have more to watch.
At least we had the FIFA world cup to keep us busy during the lull. I've never followed soccer, but I have to say it was a very exciting World Cup, and a ton of fun to watch.
The U.S. team was pretty terrible, and made much worse by all the hype. But it didn't really matter so much, because there were so many dramatic matches.
The only real problem was the rule that required a tied match be settled by penalty kicks after two fifteen-minute overtimes. It's pretty lame to sit through a thrilling match where both teams play their hearts out and have it end because some guy who didn't play much of a role in the actual game misses a shot with no one defending except the goalie because he makes a dumb mistake. Or because the team's best player is out due to a red card (of which there were far too many, if you ask me). Pretty lame.
Anyway, just the thoughts of a guy who never really watched soccer before - so what do I know?
