Well, I couldn't have been more wrong with regards to my ALCS prediction. A sweep? It looks like those Ligers have earned their stripes and are for real after all. Who are the Tigers going to play in the Fall Classic?
Looking at tonight's matchup between the Cardinals and Mets I can't help but take the Mets with Tom Glavine on the mound. The Cards have Jeff Weaver going and though he has a deservedly bad reputaion after having a tough regular season, he has gone on to pitch well in the playoffs. He's sporting a 1-1 record with a 1.69 ERA this post season while Glavine is 2-0 without giving up an earned run. Odds would dictate that Glavine is bound to give up some runs tonight. He's pitching on the road and the Cardinals lineup has shown some life since getting shutout in Game 1. Albert Pujols enters the game 9-for-20 in his career against Glavine, who is 3-7 with a 3.77 ERA in 14 career postseason starts on the road.
Game 5 is always a huge, huge game in a seven game series when entering tied 2-2. One team will come out of this one win away from entering the World Series. I'll take my chances with the Mets' hot bats and their top pitcher on the hill over the home team even though I think it's a coin toss. As we've seen in the other series that have been played out the team with the better pitching is going to win out and right now there isn't a better pitcher to have penciled in than Glavine.

Also, don't forget that the odds that Jeff Weavers gives up a bunch of runs is greater than Glavine doing the same...Weaver is, how do you say...not good.
