Women R US's Blog

June's Member Spotlight is Shining !

The Women R Us Group was founded by Cassidy's House back in September of 2007. The group's objective was to bring the female sports fans together in one group to discuss all things Sports. Not just women's sports. All sports. Today, the group has grown to almost 60 members.

Each month, a member is chosen who represents and supports the group in a positive and active manner. This month's member spotlight shines on the one, the only and probably the most fanatical OSU fan I've ever talked with:

Buck-I-Girl !

I sat down and asked Buck-I-Girl some questions so we could all get to know her a bit better, and here's what she had to say !

Well, golly, we pretty much know you're an OSU fan, but what about pro sports? any diehard true blue fandom?

College football is my passion, but I love football in all its incarnations-NFL, NFL Europe, CFL, Arena League-I think I was one of three people who watched (and didn't hate) the XFL... In the NFL, I pull for the home state teams (born and reared in Ohio , though Cincinnati 's off-field antics are driving me away), but it's best to ask the teams I don't like rather than the teams I do.  I've hated Dallas since I was little-NO ONE has the right to the title " America 's Team" (which would also explain my venom toward New England as of late). Hated the Raiders from back in the day-they played SO dirty.  And of course, because I am an Ohioan, I believe that Art Modell (henceforth he-who-shall-not-be-named) deserves a torturous death-I hate him even more for drafting Troy Smith and forcing me to actually pay attention to how the ex-Browns are doing...   I also love tennis and follow the Americans-James Blake is a demigod-smart, socially conscious, gorgeous... ::SIGH:: ...sorry... what were we talking about again? ;)

Women R Us Member Spotlight !

The Spotlight is on .....

Every so often, the Women R Us Group, likes to shine a spotlight on one of its members. The group hopes that by shining that light, members of FanNation will be introduced to a valuable site and group member. An informal introduction if you will.

This week, that member spotlight is shining on Becca E.

Becca E hails from Kentucky and is an avid and I do mean AVID Red Sox fan. Just goes to show you that fandom for a team is not limited to the local area. Becca is also a huge fan of College Basketball. More often than not, you can find Becca on one of the MLB threads. I  "sat" down with Becca and asked her a few questions so that we could all get to know her a bit better. Becca is a proud mom and just welcomed her granddaughter Lily to the family!

What was your Best Athletic Moment?

I was a benchwarmer on my highschool basketball team that went undefeated. I got to play for four minutes, in one game, I made a layup and two free throws!

What was your Worst Athletic Moment?

I got hit between the eyes playing catcher in a baseball game when I was a kid. I had two black eyes for about two weeks..ouch!

What was the last movie you saw?

I just watched Mississippi Burning the other day.

If you had a million dollars?

I would relocate to be close to my honey and then spend, spend, spend!!

What was the last CD you bought?

Norah Jones

Sports is ?

Time to spend with family and friends, excitement, a good reason to bet, stress reliever and a fun time talking smack.

Will NFL Commissioner reinstate Pacman?

For those who didn't get the chance to surf the net today, here are some top NFL articles hot off the presses. Okay they're not all that hot anymore, but just in case you missed it.

Despite his agent saying "Pacman" Jones would ask for reinstatement today, Pacman disclosed today on Michael Irvin radio show that he wold wait until he is traded.  Some believe he should wait until Goodell tells him to reapply.  The commissioner has made it clear that he will reinstate Pacman when he' damn good and ready.  I haven't heard any news of Pacman frequenting strip-clubs lately, but that doesn't mean he isn't.

Jennifer from North Carolina is in the WRU Spotlight

Okay, so there is this girl named Jennifer from NC who has been with Fannation since September last and as a member of our group for 4 months running. Despite her Carolina residence she manages to maintain a loyalty to the New York Mets and San Diego Chargers, which I am sure she will love to explain to us below.

Anywho, not only has Jen been a great member of our little group, but she is a very popular regular on the 10 Spot blogs. Here is todays example: http://fannation.com/blogs/post/177636

If you want to check out Jennifer's profile, go here: http://fannation.com/users/view_user_profile/136916

If you want to get to know her better, read her answers to the questions I posed to her below:

MLB Rookie Profiles

Just for those who don't follow baseball the definiton of a rookie is: a player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season he has exceeded 130 at bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues; or (b) accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League team.

Blake DeWitt: Age: 23, Birthplace: Sarasota, Fl., Debut: 31 Mar 2008 Currently playing 3b for the Los Angeles Dodgers.  Blake has never played higher than double A.  He is currently batting .278, with an OBP of .435. He has 4 walks and scored 3 runs.  He has also played very well on defense.  It's a shame that he will probably be sent down when Garciapara or LaRoche come back from injuries.

middle Jacoby Ellsbury: Age: 24, Birthplace: Madras, Or., Debut: 2007. So far the Red Sox are not doing well, but let's hope this rookie can get back the mojo he had last year.  He currently has 3 hits in 6 games and is batting a paltry .200. If he doesn't get going he could find himself on the bench.
Clay Buchholz: Age: 23, Birthplace: Nederland, Tx., Debut: 2007, In 2007 Clay pitched 27.2 innings and had a 3-2 record. He gave up 20 hits and had 7 ERs and an ERA of 2.28.  So far this year hasn't been great.  He lost his first game, giving up 3 ERs on 6 hits, while striking out 7.  He currently has an ERA of 5.40.
Franklin Morales: Age: 22, Birthplace: Venezuela, Debut: 2007.  Pitched 6 innings, 2 hits, 3 BB and 2K's. No runs allowed. He didn't get a decision, but pitched well, If he stays healthy he should get about 25 starts.
Johnny Cueto: Age: 22, Birthplace: DR, Debut: 4 Apr 2008. Pitched 7 innings, 1 hit, 0 BB 10 K's and an ERA 1.29.  He topped out at 96 MPH.  He has a hard slider and great changeup.  If he can keep up this pace he will be successful in the majors.
Jair Jurrjens: Age: 22, Birthplace: Curacao, Debut: 2007. He made is first start for Atlanta on 2 Apr.  He pitched 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 hits, 5 K's and has an ERA 3.38.  In 2007 he was 3-1 with a 4.70 ERA with Detroit.
Geovany Soto: Age: 25 Birthplace: Puerto Rico.  Stats not currently good, He is only batting .188. His OBP is >300.  He does have 1 HR and 4 RBI's.  Catching isn't the easiest position, but he's young and should be able to handle it.
Kosuke Fukudome: Age: 30, Birthplace: Osaki, Japan. He is currently on fire, batting .421, 5 RBI's, scored 5 runs and has an OBP of .542.  If he continues this pace, he may be the one to beat for Rookie-of-the-year.
