Game of the Week: Pacific Ten Conference

This week's game of the week is #9 USC Trojans (6-1, 3-1 Pac-10) at the Oregon Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Pac-10). I was split as to which game I wished to attack (Cal at Arizona State looked appetizing also, but hey, I like a little Turkish Duck), but in the end decided to be a homer.

The Trojans are coming into this game off of their biggest win of the year, scoring-wise, but before that, they scuffled through a three game stretch against Washington, Stanford, and Arizona, where they were only +9 in points differential. Their defense however, has performed up to the lofty expectations placed upon them before the season. Having linebacker Brian Cushing coming back from injury makes that defense just that much better.

Pac-10 Power Rankings: 10/27/07

This week's power rankings for the Pac-10 are as follows:

#1- Arizona State Sun Devils (7-0, 4-0 Pac-10)
Last week: Bye
This week: versus California, 10:00 PM Eastern

Still undefeated, they aren't budging from this spot.  Dennis Erickson's team is headed for a colossal showdown against Cal on Saturday, which doesn't look as colossal as it did two weeks ago. However, Arizona State's schedule isn't easy the rest of the way, because they have remaining games against Cal, at Oregon, at UCLA, USC, and a rivalry game against Arizona. It is conceivable that they could lose all five of those games, but highly unlikely. I don't think they make it through the next five games without losing at least once, but until that happens, they stay #1 here.

#2- Oregon Ducks (6-1, 3-1 Pac-10)

Game of the Week: Pacific Ten Conference

This week's Game of the Week in the Pac-10 is the #10 California Golden Bears (5-1, 2-1 Pac-10) at the UCLA Bruins (4-2, 3-0 Pac-10). This looks to be the best game between good teams, because Oregon plays Washington, USC has Notre Dame, and Arizona State has a bye.

California is coming off of a bad loss last week at home against Oregon State. However, had quarterback Nate Longshore been healthy enough to play, that game wouldn't have happened the way it did. This week's tilt against UCLA looks the same way. If Longshore plays, then Cal should walk through this game no problem; however, if he is unable to, look for another very close game.

Pac-10 Power Rankings: 10/20/07

This week's power rankings for the Pac-10 are as follows:

#1- Arizona State Sun Devils (7-0, 4-0 Pac-10)
Last Week: 44-20 win versus Washington
This Week: Bye

By virtue of them being the only undefeated team left in the Pac-10, Dennis Erickson's Sun Devils are top dog in the power rankings. The only marginal games they have played were against Oregon State and Colorado, and both of those games were in Tempe. Their next game, against California, is also at home, a week from this Saturday, meaning that their only road games that are a challenge are at Oregon and at UCLA.

#2- Oregon Ducks (5-1, 2-1 Pac-10)

How Weird Could the College Football Season Get?

What a year it has been for college football. The first BCS standings have been released, just three of the AP preseason top-10 teams (#4 LSU, #5 Oklahoma, #9 West Virginia) remain ranked in the top-10. This season has gone from: #5 Michigan losing to 1-AA Appalachian State at the Big House in week one, five top-10 teams losing in week five, #1 USC losing to Stanford at home, and finally, week six saw the #1 and #2 teams (LSU and Cal) in the country losing tight games.
