Heres who I think will win the various awards in the AL at the end of the season.
MVP- Carlos Quentin
Cy Young- Roy Hallady. He is a innings eater with a 2.85 ERA and 12 wins on a bad team
Comback Player- Cliff Lee. ERA above 6 last year now below 3. Hamilitons comeback was last year people.
SILVERS SLUGGERS:
C- Joe Mauer
1B- Justin Morneau
2B- Ian Kinsler
3B- A-Rod
SS- Julio Lugo( just kidding) Jhonny Peralta
LF- Carlos Quentin
CF- JOsh Hamiliton
So with this whole Manny three way trade with us getting Jason Bay I wanted to know who the Sox top prospects are. I looked up Red Soc top prospects and clinked on a link by baseball propectus. Then I saw that it was the 2007 rankings and was no longer relevent. However I looked at it to see who was where and I found something quite humorous.
Average Prospects
7. Dustin Pedroia, 2b- Haha guess they didnt know he was going to become a rookie of the year then all star. He is a top three second basemen in the American Leauge who has hit .300+ both years of playing. They got this one wrong.
I was watching Sports Center the other day when the new of another great C.C Sabathia start came on. This made me wonder about the NL Cy Young where the early favorites are falling. Could C.C Sabathia a mid season addition by the Brewers end up winning the award. He would have the stats to back it up if it only looks at his NL stats and keeps on his current pace.
For those of you that are not familiar with what he has done as a Brewer so far let me remind you. He has made 4 starts winning all of them. He allowed 3 runs, then 2, then 1, and lastly just 0 so he has gotten stronger. He has made three straight complete games allowing just 3 runs in that span. His ERA so far in the NL is 1.36 and he has struck out 31 batters.
Im a big red sox fan so I might be a little biased but I think Dice K deserves some mention in the Al Cy Young race. I know what you are all thinking, he doesnt average 6 Ip a start and walks and amasing amount of batters. But does that matter that much I mean what is your Sp suppossed to do for you? Hes suppossed to win you games and not allow many runs.
Well Dice K has a 11-1 record which is the best winning % in the leauge and his 11 wins are fourth most. Thats even though he has had a couple gems ruined by the bullpen and missed time to the Dl. His one loss also came in his first game back from the DL so obvisouly he wasnt going to be the same. Onto to his ERA.
I was going to include this in my Cy Young blog but thought it would make it too long.
I have to point out something that I found quite humorous. On Mlb.com there is a poll regarding who is gonna win the Al Cy young award. Here were the canadites
1. Cliff Lee- A legitimate choice
2. Roy Halladay- Not sure why the chose him and not other Sp with better stats.
3. K-Rod- sure he has 41 saves but Rivera is the only closer that should be even considered for the Cy.
