Quarterback: Jake Locker (Washington)
Michigan State's Brian Hoyer and USC's Mark Sanchez threw four TD passes apiece against the Irish last year, Purdue's Curtis Painter has passed for 650 yards the past two seasons versus Notre Dame, and Navy's Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada (834 yards rushing and 952 passing in 2007) is as scheme-effective as any QB in the country.

2008 might be a critical year for Notre Dame football. Irish head coach Charlie Weis has done an admirable job of restocking the Notre Dame program with talent to win most games, but the victories need to start coming again soon. But there's no need to panic.
A 3-9 season will certainly bring out the boo-birds. A 3-9 season at Notre Dame will always turn heads and cast some shadow of doubt. A 3-9 season is bad news for almost everyone involved, including Weis, but not everyone.

Partnership between the University and network to reach 25 years

The University of Notre Dame and NBC Sports have reached agreement on a new five-year contract giving NBC the rights to televise Irish home football games from 2011 to 2015, extending the partnership between the University and network to 25 years.

After providing an overview of the 12 Notre Dame opponents over the past two weeks, it's time to categorize the degree of difficulty. Usually, they fall into three groups: musts, bubbles and steals.

On the plus side for the Irish, the lone opponent one can say (from a preseason perspective) is a clear, prohibitive favorite against Charlie Weis and Co. is USC. On the concern side is there are at least a half-dozen foes who are more than capable of defeating Notre Dame.
