Jays Blog (May 12th 2008)

"ZzzZzz" The sounds heard by the Jays offense after a 12-0 BLOWOUT by the indians. You know maybe this is the best thing for the jays. I mean for the last couple of weeks, their horrible preformance has been masked by the Jays incredible pitching. We all knew it couldn't last and now its clear that the jays better start hitting soon of this could get ugly.

Well it continues, the Jays could not do anything with the indians pitching as they mustered only 1 run. Yes you could make the argument that its C.C. Sabathia, but the jays are making every pitcher look like nolan ryan. This is getting out of hand. J.P tried to make some noise by aquriring Kevin Mench and sigining Brad Wilkerson. But come on, these two guys won't be the guys who propel this team to become a contender once again. Hey what do you know, no Vernon's injured. The only real hot bat in the lineup and he's out. Jays Fans maybe nows the time to push the panic button. And the only way i feel to let these guys know that its time to start earning their paycheck is through the BOO. We gotta start acting like yankee fans and red sox fans if we want to win like them. If player isn't working his A** off let him know it. Well that was my venting for today. Hope fully it will turn around soon, or Gibby and J.P's jobs are as toast as Quiznoz subs.

Red Sox - Yankees, Cubs - Cardinals, move over. The new rivalary thats hot is Toronto-Tampa, yes you heard me TORONTO-TAMPA. I call it the curse of Billy Koch (for those of you who remember him), Koch was released by the blue jays and was seen the next day in Tamap heckling his former team. Ever since then the Jays have not been able to beat up on what other teams in the AL East call a joke. Yes they are definelty posing more of a threat this year, but that's doesn't give any reason to what is supopse to be a team with was a great offensive line-up to not be able to score any runs until a nineth inning rally. We all felt good when Wells blasted a fastball from percival to the second deck. And when Aaron Hill singled in Inglett for the tie. We even felt good after a lead-off triple in the bottom of the tenth which seemed to be the dagger for the rays. Nope, after striking out Stewart, a walk to rolen, strike out of Stairs, walk to Wells and finally strike out of Barajas, the jays were back where they have been all season. 3 innings later, the rays blew it open with a 5 run 13th including a grand slam by Dioner Navaaro. Yep an outstanding home stand by the jays came to a disgusting end as the Jays went 6-2 and climbed up to within 2 games of the five hundred mark. I guess you can say that's baseball and move on.

Finally the offense comes through. A 5 run 8th inning led to the first victory against the rays this year. Shaun Marcum was OUTSTANDING!!! This guy is all-star material, so far, let's wait a couple weeks though to see if he holds up. Scott Rolen and Vernon Wells continued to swing the hot bat. Not much to say about this game though. What's seems to be more intriguing is the fact that it seems that J.P Riccardi is going after a big bat to platoon with Matt Stairs at DH. Adam Dunn, Ken Griffey Jr. and Jason Bay have all been mentioned around the league as possible trade options. But what would we have to give up, would it be a top prospect like David Purcey or someone like Joe Inglett who are both in triple A right now. The best solution would be through the free agent market. Mike Piazza, Barry Bonds, Kenny Lofton are all still available and would be a perfect fit.

Well its over, the undefeated May in no longer a possibility. The road runner is to coyote like the devil rays are to the jays. I don't know why but Toronto seems to never be able to beat up on probably the worst team of the decade. Now the loss was bad, but the loss of our two shortstops is even worse. First Eckstein made a dive, which johnny mac would make easily, and suffered a hip flexor. He should be out for the next cople of days. Now all seems fine as the Jays have the best defensive shortstop in the league in John Macdonald. A few innings after however, Macdonald dives for hard line drive and rolls his ankle. This injury doesn't seem to be the day to day type. I think 4-6 weeks seems more likely. So now here are the jays, in a mere 3 innings we have lost both our shortstops and have given up a lead that would end up winning the game. Some hope, however came from this game. Overbay had a outstanding night, just missed a homerun as the ball hit the top of the center field wall and came back right into B.J. Upton's hands. Wells continued to have the hot hand. One player i think we need to be concerned is Alex Rios. He seems to be opening up on his swing and losing the power he once hand. I guess the batting coach should take care of that. Well its the rays, what do you expect. All the jays can do is hope that Marcum can pitch a shutout, because that's probably the only way the Jays will win
