When fashion and football collide

Yesterday, SI.com launched its brand-spankin'-new college football blog, The Sweep. Immediately, key contributor Luke Winn used his journalistic savvy to research, recap and analyze some of the most ground-breaking changes that shook the college football world this offseason. No, not coaching changes. Not player suspensions, either. We're talking about changes that stare you in the face week-in and week-out. We're talking about uniform changes.

For two seasons, Winn's been chronicling impressive and eyebrow-raising fashion and grooming developments in his college basketball style archive, but this is his first crack at ranking the good, the bad and the ugly on the gridiron.

Without further ado, The Good:

Maryland's top 10 all-time athletes

Throughout the summer, SIOC will be taking a look at some of the nation's top athletic schools and determining who its all-time best athletes are. Last week we looked at Princeton's top 10 and this week we're looking at Maryland. Juan Dixon attained legendary status after bringing College Park its first basketball title, but should he have topped our ranking? Check out our list below (and our gallery) and let us know whom we underrated, whom we overrated, and whom we overlooked completely.

Throughout the summer, SIOC will be taking a look at some of the nation's top athletic schools and determining who its all-time best athletes are. Last week we looked at Michigan's top 10 and this week we're looking at Princeton, whose rich Ivy-League athletics tradition has produced an impressive list of athletes across multiple sports. Check out our list below (and our gallery) and let us know whom we underrated, whom we overrated, and whom we overlooked completely.

SI's 2008 CFB Top 20

The Missouri Tigers are ranked No. 4.

SI's annual college football preview is here, and with it the 2008 top 20 ranking. Everyone's favorite preseason darling Georgia tops the list, and with 17 starters returning from a team that finished last season on a seven-game winning streak, SIOC's not going to argue.

But we have other bones to pick. Missouri (No. 4) and Oregon State (No. 18) are both ranked too highly, and we'll tell you why. The Tigers have Heisman Trophy finalist Chase Daniel and the lightning-quick, multi-faceted Jeremy Maclin spearheading the offense and are clearly a top10 (maybe even a top 5) team, but putting them ahead of the No. 6 Sooners -- who beat the Tigers twice last season -- is puzzling. And Oregon State? The Beavers are too dependant on one player -- 5'7" wideout James Rodgers -- and one play -- the fly sweep -- to be a real top 20 threat.
